You misunderstand what this award is about (I think OP miss this also). This award is 100% base on voting, and you have to pay to vote. And that is the top 5 highest vote (out of a bigger pool of nominees, if you add the percentage they don't add to 100%). Being in top 5 for gfriend means they have more global fans (that are willing to pay to vote for them) than other groups not in top 5. So this is more meaningful than being (randomly?) chosen by mnet as nominee. Of course, the percentage difference with the rest may not be very big.
