People like to say SNSD's music went downhill after 2011

or 2013 or whatever you know

it was better before?!?!?!?!!

The only song that is universally loved by everyone is Genie

Oh! gets crazy mixed opinions.

Gee gets crazy mixed opinions.

Hoot gets mildly mixed opinions.

Run Devil Run gets mildly mixed opinions.

Kissing Yoo(na) gets crazy mixed opinions.

You're not allowed to dislike Into The New World because that's a surefire ticket to Hell.

No one even talks about Baby Baby or Girls' Generation.

Not to mention Genie is still their worst mini album to date (although that fact is severely overshadowed by the godly title track).

So what's the difference now?

The Boys got crazy mixed opinions.

I Got A Boy got crazy mixed opinions.

Mr.Mr. got mildly mixed opinons.

Party got mixed opinions.

Lion Heart got mixed opinions.

You Think got mixed opinions.

So basically the same right? Except...

Mr.Mr. was a great album and Lion Heart was good too. I think they're improving, or stagnant if anything.

What do you think?

This has been discussed so many times, let's just agree that music is subjective and move on.

I agree about Genie being their worst mini tho, cause it definitely is.

People try to find something to hate on them; nothing new. People are acting like Gee is some masterpiece of K-pop; I mean I like it, it's catchy and all but please, it's something like brighter version of Party, honestly. Personally Mr Mr is my favorite mini-album from them and LH favorite full album (not talking about Japanese records ofc). They just want to go with theory 'SNSD is ended', not cute.

EDIT: Of course some people will like earlier works more (I like them too) but let's be real, it's just hate bandwagon with talk 'SNSD's music is bad'.

Musically, SM has always given them too many silly songs.

Their live performances seemed to go steadily downhill after 2011.

Then they went sharply back up again after 9/30/2014.

I make no judgements about who was at fault for the events of that date, but the ultimate effect on the group's performances has been highly positive.

Genie produced this AMAZING bop tho:

Anyway it's fluctuated for years one release will be great another will be eh the next will be amazing it varies they've by no means gone downhill. Lion Heart was an awesome album. lol

RIP snsd popularity 2009-2012

It was sadly short lived.

It was stupid for taeyeon to kick out the most popular member in that tragic ass group. At least now you guys know that the soshibond was artificial

Gfriend or twice will take the REAL nation GG title.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I've always wondered if people saying SNSD's music went downhill, actually believe songs like Hoot, Oh! and even Gee were so much superior. Because to me they obviously weren't.

I can see SNSD's decline performance wise, more visibly in 2014 when Mr. Mr. gotta be their boring stage to date even if I liked the song; but music wise, there really isn't that much of a difference in my opinion. Except maybe that they toned down with the overly cute vocals (well, except for Party), which is a very good thing imo.

I don't know about other people, but I like their post 2011 music better because it's more mature sounding. And this year SNSD delivered with their comebacks performance wise. We had Catch Me If You Can which gotta be one of my favorite Soshi choreography to date (who said SNSD can't do exciting stages anymore), we had sexy Check, cute '20 Lion Heart, fierce dance and vocals in You Think. Party was pretty meh, but was catchy. I hope they keep it up for upcoming comebacks.

Their Japanese the music is the one I like the best from them tho.

m t e. i was so shocked when after listening to genie i checked out the rest of mini. the biggest disappointment ever (i think only infinite's infinitize can rival it in great single - tragic non-single tracks category).

as for your post: it's bc nostalgia + sheep mentality + "soshi is in demise!!!1" antis.

for me:

good albums/minis: lion heart, first and second japan album, oh! (with repack), mr. mr, twinkle (tts, but it's their best mini)

few good tracks but overall meh: baby baby, the boys, third japan album

messs: i got a boy, genie & oh & hoot & gee (i hate himnae sry)
