If Dougie gets traded I'm going to be beyond pissed that's all I have to say.

Also wow Montreal actually took Kotkaniemi lol that means Ottawa can take Zadina, that would be a really good pick oh

Only real surprise so far IMO is the Habs taking a Center that they hope becomes as good as Ryan O'Reilly. Don't know why they didn't pull the trigger on that.

Come on Sens. Shit the bed next year so my Avs can get Jack Hughes.

Sandin is a guy I'd have been fine with us taking at 25, so it's nice to get an extra pick for it, though the Sens got a lot more back for moving down 4 than we did.

Not gonna lie I was kinda buying into the Veleno hype when he was available both times we were up

Not too sure what the deal was with Veleno. There has to be a reason he went from getting exceptional status to barely getting drafted in the first round. Even with some reaches in there. Obviously, the GM's knew something the fans didn't.

Pretty boring as far as trades were concerned. My team was the only team that moved players today. Maybe all the deals will happen tomorrow or when Free Agency starts. Don't know much about Martin Kaut though. More pieces are always good.

Okay I'm going to need some time to process this, WHAT THE FUCK

Hamilton >>> Hanifin for now and the forseeable future, and wasn't Fox highly touted too? Though Lindholm has been pretty consistently a middle-6 producer for the last four seasons.

Yeah we all rated Fox very highly but he's been seen as the "expendable" one in our surplus of highly rated D prospects in the past few months since it seemed he was going to walk next year and become a UFA. No way Treliving trades Fox if he showed intentions of signing. We're going to miss Hamilton's offense but I'm excited to see what Hanifin can do, if he can get close to or reach his potential then losing Hamilton won't sting as badly (especially if Brodie+Gio is still as good as it was a few years ago). Apparently he's also friends with Tkachuk and Gaudreau so surely he'll have a very good attitude unlike Hamilton who was apparently a negative locker room influence after we waived his brother.

Ferland is loved by Calgary fans because he's a very hard worker, has truculence, and was a big part of the 2015 series against the Canucks, but Lindholm is a clear upgrade and will most likely start out as the first line RW. I'm sad he's gone but that's more sentimental than anything.

 Why does Carolina do this?

I know Lindholm was traded because he and Carolina were too far apart in contract negotiations to get anywhere, and Hanifin was traded because < Hamilton; Carolina should be pushing for a playoff spot next year.

I think all this interviewing is just a way to get New York to pay more for him and he'll just end up staying there but imagine him with the Leafs harharplz.png Tavares-Matthews-Kadri would be maybe the best centre core in the league besides Pittsburgh, the cap situation would be rough but that would be so fun to watch.

If he joins Boston though I'm done, fuck that.

Someone on the Leafs subreddit made a post outlining how Tavares would fit into the cap assuming he gets 12, Matthews 11, Marner 7.5 and Nylander 7. We'd be able to keep Rielly and Kadri too.

https://www.reddit.com/r/leafs/comments/8qmioi/can_the_maple_leafs_afford_tavares/

Basically we'd have to rely on our pipeline bringing up cheap winger talent to flank our centres (I expect at least some of Grundstrom, Bracco, Korshkov, Engvall or Timashov to become players) and we'd have to trade Gardiner or let him walk. As a result our D in 2019-20 kinda looks like a joke. We're ok on the left, where Gardiner plays, but on the right, unless Zaitsev returns to form we don't have any Top-4 D (dependent, of course, on what we have in Liljegren). Though Letang-less Pittsburgh showed that you don't need an elite D corps to win the Cup.

I do hope Tavares leaves the Isles though, just for the sheer entertainment value. Unlike the NBA we don't really see big-ticket free agents jump teams in their primes. I would imagine the Sharks are pursuing him the hardest out of any of the non-Isles teams, they cleared a ton of cap space. From the reports it seems like the Sharks are ready to go all-in and bring him on to be 'the guy', which I just can't see the Leafs doing while we have Auston.

My order of preference to where Tavares signs:

1) Leafs, duh

2) Sharks (they're my second-favourite team and I think they're a good fit)

3) Preds, Stars (keep him out of the East)

4) Isles

5) Tampa

6) Fuck Boston

Leafs finally get their franchise #1 Center. Grats to them.

So far, my team added LW Matt Calvert and D Ian Cole. Don't mind the Calvert signing but that Cole signing is expensive. Term is decent at 3 years, but 4.25 aav hurts my soul. Still have some questions at 2C and maybe an addition like James Neal if it isn't too pricey.

But we already had Auston laugh.png

I'm really pumped for JT, he definitely left money on the table to come home. Looking at our cap situation we can keep our core players with JT but it'll be a tight squeeze. That means not getting too attached to some great warriors like Hyman and Brown, but cutting them loose when we can replace them with our organizational depth.

Defence is still not great at the moment, and this pretty much guarantees that we won't re-sign Gardiner past this season. Poor drafting in the Burke/Nonis era has left us without any young D depth so while we do have some good D prospects in Liljegren, Sandin and Durzi they'll most likely be years away from making an impact. If Zaitsev can bounce back into the Top 4 D we thought he could be and Dermott can step up into Gardiner's shoes that'll be huge for us. Some whispers that we might go after de Haan.

I guess 3 Centers is the way to go now. Who cares how much they cost and you can just plug any wingers in there and the Centers will pick up the slack.

Shame that my team only as 1 bonafide Center at the moment. I was initially pissed off at the Cole signing but I have since come down a bit and realized it was a necessary addition. Not liking the Avs hard on with former Blue Jacket cast offs though.

I honestly don't mind Tavares going to the Leafs, but living in Canada, Leafsnet and Toronto Sports Network are very real. As an Avs fan in Winnipeg, all my media about the Avs is consumed online, unfortunately.

GMBT is doing some really good business this off-season, like we went in with no good right wingers and now we have maybe two, depending on how Lindholm pans out. Czarnik could be a steal at $1.25 mil (and we beat Edmonton for him), we replaced Stajan for someone who seems to actually know how to play hockey with basically the same AAV, we got Lindholm and Hanifin who I'm really excited to see, and now we've got James Neal! The term isn't great but considering he was supposed to get at least $6 million at 6 years, I'm super happy with this. Calgary and Toronto are doing work this off-season ohbi.png

It's a shame that our season will still live or die by whether the goaltending can be at least not total shite/Mike Smith can stay healthy...

Good deal for Neal.

This was our lineup two years ago, in Feb 2016. Bozak and JVR were injured and Kadri was suspended so this tire-fire took the ice. Now we've got Tavares - Matthews - Kadri down the middle holy fucking SHIT

Me

Seeing the Karlsson situation resolved (i.e., him getting traded as he's told the Sens he won't extend) without him going to our biggest division rival and Nylander getting inked to a comfortable extension (similar to what Ehlers/Pasta got) and my offseason is complete. If we could upgrade on RD that'd be the cherry on top.
