Who is and isn't acceptable to listen to in Japanese music?

Exile, Dream, Flower, Happiness, E-Girls, Generations, The Second, and Sandaime J Sould Brothers have a large and strong following on One Hallyu. Haven't seen or experienced much criticisms in regards to any of these groups regardless of the material being released by them. They're all strong groups in terms of their performances and choreography but their material and music isn't always as strong or as interesting as people on this forum lead on. Idols are heavily and unfairly criticized regardless of the material that they are releasing. Noticed that most members of the forum are using their experience with The 48 Family in terms of their music and practices to judge other idols, which is problematic using The 48 Family as an example for practices and music because they don't represent the practices or music of most groups. Namie Amuro and Koda Kumi often get quite a bit of criticism while I've seen less criticism held toward Hikaru or Hamasaki. The criticism on the Japanese side of the forum has its moments of being a bit uneven because of the strong bias on around the forum. All groups, acts, and band are acceptable to listen to as long as the person listening to them enjoys them.

so I'm a jpop n00b but I figured here would be just as good a place to ask as any...

...why is Perfume hot shit, but the 48 groups are garbage? As far as I can tell they have about the same level of of vocal talent and the only difference is the number of members and the sophistication of their concepts.

if I don't know what I'm talking about at all please don't hate me

lol, comparing perfume to akb48 is so random because they're on way different levels. akb48 are idols with typical idol hit-or-miss music and concepts, perfume are not idols, their concepts are always sophisticated, and their music also tends to be more mature. i'm actually kinda shocked that they're not more popular in japan than they already are
