Do You React to Catcalling?

So, if you witness young girls or anyone getting catcalled do you intervene?

Today I went to a pizzeria and there was a group of middle school aged girls waiting for their pizza.

An older aged Indian man old enough to be my grandpa was harassing them. He walked up to their table. He was singing to them and asking them if they drank beer. He was asking them if they wanted to spend time with him. The girls were creeped out and scared.

I gave that old man an angry look. He then walked up to me and started to stare at me. I asked him how old he was and he sad he was 5 :wth: at this point I knew he was drunk/high.

I work at a middle school so I saw these girls like my students. I got pissed.

I told him that the girls he was harassing were 13 and that he should back the fuck off. He then sat down in his fucking seat. Then everyone in the pizzeria including the employees were staring at me like an alien. Idegaf. I payed and left.

What would you do in a situation like that?

i do react when i see other women/girls being catcalled/harassed. when it comes to me, it depends on my mood or situation whether i decide to curse them back or just ignore.

also, no need to go all "indian man" and shit, it has nothing to do with this issue. being racist ain't cute.

I'm not being racist whatsoever. I'm Indian myself and that's why him harassing girls struck a cord with me. He could have really been my grandpa.

bless you. i don't know what i would do to be honest. if a woman was really being bothered i'd like to think i would step in by saying something or just start a conversation with the girl(s) in the hope that the guy leaves, because i know how it feels.

one time i was waiting for the metro and there was this guy who was literally openly staring at women their breasts, getting in their face and asking for phone numbers and sex. he was nearing me and i was already getting really uncomfortable, but just before he reached me the guy standing next to me interfered. he calmly talked to the guy and told him he was making the girls feel uncomfortable and he was being rude. the platform was full of people since it was 8 a.m but nobody else said anything and the guy was harassing different girls for a solid five minutes while we were waiting. still grateful for the other guy stepping in!

I'm not very good at handling it tbh

Me and my bff were walking around just a few weeks ago when a bunch of dudes started following us and saying shitty things, comparing our backsides and whistling. It was so awful...we endured it until we reached our friend's house.

I hate it. I get catcalled alot last week this guy wouldn't stop following me like a dog and he kept looking at me. Long story short I was scared and I was in public and he asked if I had a BF and I said yeah. The one thing I hate is when I clearly state I'm not interested and I have a man its time to back off. He kept saying we  can be friends I said my BF would like that. What I hate is I can say my BF is off his rocker and these men will still say LETS BE FRIENDS. Like back off.

Get off your self-righteous high horse.

There are quite a number of cultures that are tolerant and accepting of male catcalling/sexual advances toward females of any age.  The culture OP mentioned is one of them.  Pointing that out may annoy progressives, who continue to try to insist that all cultures are the same, but it is in no way racist.

A racist would go the other way - claiming that merely because the "suspect" belongs to a given race that he is likely to be a rude catcaller.  The unfairness of racism is in stereotyping people who haven't done anything wrong, not in criticizing people who have.

OP did the right thing by intervening. One of the reasons rudeness has become so widespread in our society is because so few people stand up to it in public.

i'm sorry but i'm still failing to see how that matters. when i see situations like that, the last thing i think about is race.

I've never seen it happen and it's never happened to me. I would ignore it if it were to me. If it was to someone else, I would watch them to see if they ignore it. If they look affected, I would probably walk up to them and walk with them. Maybe I'll say something. Maybe.

They looked at you like you were an alien? Because you decided to speak up?

Thank you do for defending me, you hit the nail right on the head.

The man was surprised that I was telling him to fuck off,in my culture we are supposed to respect our elders. Also by me screaming at him I was able to get the employees attention and when I went into the shop again later, maybe you 15 mins,he wasnt there.
