The forthcoming Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens movie has teamed up with EXO for a collaboration. After the film franchise teased a K-pop partnership on Facebook, the results came via the new song "Lightsaber" and a cinematic music video. Opening with Darth Vader's iconic breathing, "Lightsaber" begins with a racing, synth-pop sound that grows into a frenetic EDM breakdown. Despite the high-energy production, there's a hint of melancholy here as the guys sing about being a girls "lifesaver" and their "lightsaber" -- nice play on words -- and bring her out of her darkness. The accompanying video, which is being touted as a "collaboration film" with the famous franchise, sees the nine EXO members in a Star Wars-inspired world where clubs are "Jedi Only" and they carry actual lightsabers. According to reports, this won't be the only partnership between EXO's record label SM Entertainment and Disney, Star Wars' current home. The collaboration is notable for showing how influential Korean pop stars can be with this song potentially inspiring their (mostly female) fanbase to check out the movie: EXO has huge popularity in Korea and China, they've begun promoting in Japan to a welcomed response, and currently hold the record for biggest sales week ever for a K-pop in America. EXO's "Lightsaber" is available on Apple Music now. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens will be released in Korean theaters on Dec. 17 while it hits America on the 18th. op: hmmmm the plot thickens?????
