How does one get over body dysmorphia?

I think my thighs are too big and my skin is too dark (this is bad I know considering that I'm black but in my country they always talk about skin colour if you're dark like edris or Kevin hart your ass gets roasted/insulted 80% of the day)

I'm not American but colorism in my country is bad.

Girls will have light faces and dark bodies (they bleach their faces) it's a mess.

I considered seeing a therapist but all the ones in my city are white and I feel uncomfortable talking to them about my problems because I know they'll probably won't understand.

Man I'm going nuts lately.

Body dysmorphia and low self confidence are two different things. You sure you have it?

I have body dysmorphia I think I'm fat and I'm a size 2 this is serious and I low self esteem.

:/ This may be corny as fuck but you're beautiful the way you are. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise

Thank you <3

Do you have counsellors at your academic institution? They can sometimes provide services for free. Talk to friends and family as well. It's different for everyone, in terms of what you're insecure about, why you feel that way, and what makes you feel better; but a support system is critical for everyone.

come up with some witty comebacks about the things you don't like about your body, so no one can use it against you. I did that and I grew to have fun with knowing i don't have a perfect body and can make fun of it so no one else can.

I can't take jokes irl online yes but to my face or in my head it doesn't work.

It's strange but that's how I am idk why.

It's okay. Sometimes parents don't understand or can't understand what their kid is going through. It can be difficult to see through someone else's perspective, especially when others don't see you they way you see yourself.

Find someone you talk to whenever you're upset. It doesn't have to be your parents. It could be your friends, your extended family, someone at work whatever. If you don't havesomeone like that, or you don't feel comfortable with that, that's okay as well. You can talk to a counsellor at your school/ university, a therapist, someone on your local helpline, support groups etc. Also, if you need to, you can message me any time. You can talk, rant or whatever suits.

You don't really. It's like many mental disorders in that it persists - but you CAN make progress. Don't self diagnose, but if you can't find someone to talk to there are some ways you can try to help yourself whether it be BDD or self image problems.

One thing that helps a friend of mine with the disorder a bit is that she writes down things on post-it notes like "You're beautiful", "Your butt is cute af", "Your eyes are fuckin gorgeous man werk", basically compliments and sticks them on her mirror, fridge, whatever. Basically places that she frequents. It sounds stupid and even if you don't believe them it puts them in your head and reinforces the ideas. There are a lot of other ways to try and help yourself as well, do some research.

Keep in mind these aren't substitutes for psychological treatment. Therapists can really delve in and teach you ways to help change your thinking and help you live more comfortably in your own body.

I urge you to try and find similar individuals to have discussions with. Before seeing a therapist about my own issues(I had really bad anxiety about seeing them cause of bad experiences with them as a child), I went on mental illness forums/boards and I think it really helped me.

You'll be okay. c:
