IU scandal gets coverage in The Guardian!

Wow. If Korean news sites get a hold of this...it truly is over.

Although I don't agree with IU, I don't believe her scandal should result in her career being destroyed/exiled. Did she mess up? Yes. But at the end of the day she issued an apology and I don't believe she had ill intentions. There's people who have done way worse than her that are still accepted and happily promoting.

She should have just taken the song down tbh, even if she didn't agree with public sentiment. Sometimes you just have to bow your head and accept the punishment.

You're going to screencap a reply-reply, but not the original reply that reply was responding to?

I was intrigued how something like this could happen and dug a bit deeper. As it turns out, pretty much all the phrases "climb up up", "pick the youngest leaf" etc. that have been interpreted as "sexualizing" this Zeze appear word for word in the novel that was apparently used as inspiration for the song by the singer. To me, it seems like those people who got their panties in a bunch didn't know the original work the song is based on and simply misinterpreted some otherwise pretty innocent song lyrics. Misinterpretations can happen, but there should be a stage before starting the "outrage machine" where you ask yourself why someone would willingly release a song sexualizing a 5-years-old child in this day and age and why their record company and all the many people involved in the production of a song/album let them do it and not once asked if it was a good idea. I'm reminded of the rock music/satanism hysteria from days long gone by, where some people saw dark and satanic messages in everything. Just like back then, maybe the people throwing around these accusations in this case should take a long hard look at their subconscious and ask themselves why they see something sexual in these originally innocent lyrics.

those were lines in question? I thought the main line they're criticizing is when she called (his duality) him "sexy"

I can't with people still saying she messed up. What she did "wrong" (Although not really. Her creative freedom should not be dictated by the public.) was putting out work which was too difficult to understand for most people given how they are dumbasses. Take a college-level literature class and then opine about this supposed issue, damn :>_>: :>_>:

They started criticizing those lines after they heard her call his duality traits "sexy." They probably thought the song was innocent, too (seeing how it went 2 weeks without problems), but then she explained the song and then things blew up from there.
