The label grossed over a record 236 billion won ($203 million) in sales and 34 billion won in operating profits, according to the company’s regulatory filing on Monday.

Its sales rose 13.6 percent and its operating profits surged 41.2 percent from the same period last year.

“Sales were fueled by the strong global performance of the label’s artists -- TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, SHINee, f(x) and EXO. Global sales went up 42.4 percent on-year (January-September),†the company’s official said.

“The company will continue to see an upward trend thanks to the growing sales in the global market,†he added.

S.M. Culture & Contents, a subsidiary of S.M. Entertainment which was newly launched to produce content, has also seen its sales rise 52 percent to post 18.2 billion won.

Its contents including JTBC’s “The Day,†KBS’ “The Merchant†and musical “In the heights†are expected to boost sales in the fourth quarter, according to industry watchers.

Both are apparently all-time highs for the company (op: which they will need once two groups go on hiatus next year and also that money will probably largely go to debuting a new group tbh). But yeah, they seem to have built some solid ground to stand on for the next year while the enlistments finish up~

Wow, all time highs is awesome  :ahmagah:  2016 could be a breakout for exo japan releases, and red velvet breakout song

Btw, you said two groups are going on hiatus, but I only know TVXQ is...?

I think the consensus is that Super Junior as a full unit won't release any music while 5 of their members are in the army (Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhae, and Siwon) but the other members will def still have their individual careers and KRY might happen (+ Ryeowook or Yesung solo)

Yeah, shinee's japan popularity is no joke too. Well Luna said she was getting a solo, and yeah there's a lot of potential for subunits! Can't believe I forgot about sr15b as well  :._.:

SM's costs are too damn high but we the fans got a good quality from them. So, I would not complain. I am rather glad that they spend their money for quality for their consumers. :D

Same here. It's nice to see them spend money and yet produce quality material.

Also aside from the album sales there are concert sales. They had their SM Town and iirc SS5, TVXQ With tour, SHINee and EXO had/have tours. And for the last quarter of the year SNSD will start their world and Japan tour.

Damn. This is like a brand new SM lol

I'm always curious about people getting excited about k-pop entertainment companies' financial performance/share price fluctuations/etc:

Not like we get to share in their profits or anything, so...?

As someone who cares about my groups getting paid / getting top class promotions / get expensive MVs / getting awesomely produced tours / seeing idols' hard work literally pay off (especially new groups)

&

And as someone who stans the as of yet un-debuted rookies and hopes they get a really well done debut and have a lot of resources poured into their debut promotions / music / etc.  to make it special & unique..... I kinda care that the company that pays for all of that and is in charge of it isn't "failing" or in the red or not running a profit etc.

Like.... it's not about stanning a "company" it's about making sure the kids and artists and idols I do stan for have the proper resources available to them to make some really fucking awesome art / music / performances / etc.

Well the company profits directly affects the artists which we like. It's a worrying thing if companies trend downhill like pledis or dsp and then their artists can't afford proper promotions or comebacks... so positive news is usually a good thing. Plus I guess it's good for the simpletons who company stan lol
