IU's problematic lyrics of Zeze + lolicon concept?

Lyrics of Zeze:

It’s amusing
Look at the tail of your lips rising
I can tell by your laugh
You’re definitely mischievous

Ah ah your name is really pretty
I want to keep calling it
The things I cannot say
Those bad thoughts are lovely

With your small fingers
You touch the sounds
With that ticklish voice
You sing those colors and landscapes yeah

Zeze hurry and come up the tree
Put your lips on the leaves
Don’t joke around
You can’t hurt the trees, you can’t
Zeze hurry and come up the tree
Take the youngest leaf here
Take away the one of a kind flower

Climb up me
Climb up me

Like a flower bloomed
Look at the two cheeks turned rosy
You’re really innocent
But you’re definitely cunning

You seem transparent like a little child
Something about you is dirty
There’s no way to find out
What it is living inside you

Right now, above your head
There may be a floating sun
But I vaguely see
Dark clouds filled inside you

Zeze hurry and come up the tree
Put your lips on the leaves
Don’t joke around
You can’t hurt the trees, you can’t
Zeze hurry and come up the tree
Take the youngest leaf here
Take away the one of a kind flower

Climb up me
Climb up me

I want to touch you one more time
I wait for you here everyday
Come and take everything
I want to call for you

I wait for you here everyday
You sneak away
But you’ll come to see me again tomorrow night

Zeze hurry and come up the tree
Put your lips on the leaves
Don’t joke around
You can’t hurt the trees, you can’t
Zeze hurry and come up the tree
Take the youngest leaf here
Take away the one of a kind flower

Climb up me
Climb up me

IU's interview: "Zeze in 'My Sweet Orange Tree' is a character of hypocrisy. At some points, he's described as "angelic kid, kid with a shining mind" but at other points, he's described as "I've never seen someone as evil as you. You're hopeless." He's innocent but also cruel. He makes people dislike him because he's too playful. The story makes sense because Zeze is young. Zeze as a character is full of hypocrisy, that's why I found it charming and sexy. I got caught between the kid's two sides but I kept cheering for him and loved him until the end of the book. I thought he was amazingly charming. The lyrics are about me talking to Zeze from Minginui's point of view. I considered a lot to write the lyrics. I wrote the song with a lot of possibilities of interpretations."

However, if you read the book, you cannot say that Zeze, an abused child, is cunning or sexy.

An amateur photographer also pointed out IU's lolicon concept:

1.png

The books behind her are "Leon, Delicate, Discipline"
Leon is a famous film with a lolicon concept. Delicate is used to describe a "weak girl who is easy to be tricked sexually" in lolicon context. Discipline means an adult man disciplining a girl sexually. The three words are infamous clichés of lolicon.

2.png

White dress and messy hair

The photographer says these two pictures are clearly lolicon concept

She sings, "I'm going to be a moist woman" and pours milk on a doll in the music video. In the film 'Leon', Mathilda tells Leon, "you need to feed me with water if you want me to grow." In this context, 'water' translates into 'cum'. "Raising a girl with water" is an infamous lolicon cliché meaning "giving cum".

Pann: IU definitely has to give a feedback to this

1. [+380, -56] Woah fuck, I'm getting goosebumps... Wow... so dirty... She's a bubble for sure ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ Innocent, my fucking ass~ It wasn't too long ago when she sang songs written by other composers and shook her butt. I knew something was wrong when she suddenly started to act like an artist. Bullshit. I hope many people would read this post.

2. [+374, -20] Wow, it's my first time of seeing Zeze lyrics. Who the hell wrote them? The kid was abused extremely cruelly by his dad and the lack of affection made him rebel. She sees this as charming and sexy??

3. [+354, -18] It's not blowing up because it's IU. If it was an other artist, they would've became another Yewon.

4. [+174, -7] I've always sensed that she's sexual. I think she likes lolicon concept.

5. [+141, -10] I also heard about plagiarism accusations of Leon. I'm not sure if it's just me but it sounds really the same... You can sing the song with the background music. Labelle - Open Up Your Heart.

6. [+131, -5] "I'm going to be a moist woman" ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ What's wrong with her? Just do an obvious sexy concept like Hyuna and shoot a nude pictorial. Lolicon concept is disgusting.

7. [+128, -3] Did you guys know that Zeze is also accused of plagiarism? ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ Fuck

8. [+115, -0] Minginui is a tree who is Zeze's friend and knows Zeze's mind. How can the lyrics be from Minginui's perspective? And Zeze is only five, it's a bit wrong to call him sexy.

9. [+99, -1] This is from IU's album cover. This kid seems to be Zeze and he's wearing fish stockings and is posing like a pinup girl ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ Obvious shotacon, isn't it? I don't understand what she intended when she wrote the lyrics. What she says is a complete misinterpretation ã…‹ã…‹ Did she even read the book?

3.jpg

10. [+93, -3] Her idea on sexualization has a lot of problems. A normal 23-year-old woman can't have this kind of thinking.

11. [+86, -2] I wonder how she'll get away with it this time

12. [+84, -1] IU said in an interview that Zeze was her favorite track and that she expected it to be #2... IU wrote the song.

13. [+83, -1] I saw this and um...

4.png

(IU's album photo is similar to a scene in a lolicon film)

14. [+72, -1] Am I the only one who finds Zeze lyrics erotic? "Take the youngest leaf here" sounds like a lolicon line and a flower is commonly used to symbolize purity...

[Pann] IU's problematic interpretation of Zeze in her lyrics for 'Zeze'

Pann: IU's pedophile concept

(Summary of post) The topic of IU's interpretation of the autobiography 'My Sweet Orange Tree' has been being discussed for a couple days now. Her lyrics to the song 'Zeze' are based off of the character of an abused 5 year old boy named Zeze from the book. In an interview about writing the lyrics to the song, IU says she felt Zeze's misunderstood traits made him hypocritical but "cunning, charming, and sexy".

People found it disturbing that she would describe a 5 year old child as "sexy", even dirty in a way, and even go as far as to depict him on her album cover in a sexy pose wearing fish net stockings. Considering that the book handles issues of child abuse, many were upset that IU was viewing the character in a pedo-ish way, describing him in ways in her lyrics that adult pedos would describe a child, blaming the child for exuding these traits capable of seduction (the lyrics are written from the perspective of Zeze's only true friend in the book but IU's lyrics give off heavy elements of sexuality).

Discussions have delved further into IU's lolita concept where she's often seen with infantile things in her music videos like a milk bottle and her past songs where she sings of being a young girl being in love with an older man and wanting to speed time up as a result.

-

1. [+414, --10] Like the OP said, if a male idol had written a song saying that he felt a 5 year old child he read in book was sexy to him and drew that child in a pin-up girl pose in fishnet stockings, this issue would've gotten far more attention.

2. [+367, -9] How she interpreted Zeze is honestly the most shocking to me. How did she feel a sexiness from a 5 year old child suffering from abuse? Especially from the perspective of Minguinho? She says in her lyrics "Take my youngest leaf, break off my only flower"... How can she interpret Minguinho as seeing Zeze as something sexual?... Just how..

3. [+363, -11] Honestly, combined with the lyrics and how Zeze is depicted in her album cover with a hole in the tree and a flower and mushrooms around him, it's easy to tell that IU thinks Minguinho viewed Zeze sexually. I'm not sure how she came to this conclusion.

4. [+197, -1] I felt this while watching the music video too. IU's slowly getting older and maturing and she realizes she needs to change up her image but the image of IU conjures up an innocent, young, emotional concept of a girl with a choding body. She can't go out with a sexy concept like other girl groups so she has to hide in sexual cliches in her music videos like this. They call this 'mise en scene' in movies.

5. [+180, -3] You get treated like pedo trash if you try this Lolita concept stuff in America or England

6. [+143, -1] If a male singer had depicted a 5 year old little girl in fish nets and called her sexy and dirty......... I could never have imagined that someone could imagine Zeze in such a way.

7. [+136, -1] Even if it's just a concept, I think IU's enjoying it... enjoying the attention of older men who like young girls.

8. [+134, -0] The reason IU's interpretation is messed up is because she said she wrote the lyrics from Minguinho's perspective of Zeze. Minguinho is one of the only characters who understands that Zeze is acting out of innocence. The reason Zeze is so misunderstood and seen as hypocritical in the book is because the adults see his pranks as crossing the line.

9. [+133, -0] Is IU a pervert

10. [+124, -2] Okay, fans can shield the lolita concept all they want but the biggest problem here is that she felt a sexiness from a 5 year old kid

11. [+103, -1] Do IU's fans honestly believe that it's normal to interpret a 5 year old child as sexy?

12. [+102, -6] Something off about her the more we see her..

13. [+90, -0] You can't just call this a concept when she said with her own mouth that she felt a 5 year old child was sexy.

14. [+87, -0] In my opinion, I don't think IU's a pedo and all that but she's just too obsessed with being so mysterious and unique and just took it too far without knowing where to draw a line this time. This book is often favored by those edgy kids who think they're so artistic when it's probably the only book she read since junior high. She took her interpretation too far to be as edgy as possible and now people are calling her out for it. She's not educated enough to pull off a concept that others with more age and experience like Jang Giha and Horan can pull off with ease.

1. [+181, -14] The fact alone that she described a 5 year old child as being sexy is enough for controversy ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ And Minguinho is the only character that understands the abuse Zeze is suffering in his home, just how in the world can IU write lyrics from his perspective interpreting Zeze in such a way? Everyone knows what "break my only flower, my youngest leaf" is alluding to; It surprises me that IU thought Minguinho viewed Zeze sexually.

2. [+176, -10] The people who view Zeze as "cunning" are the people in his town. But IU talked about writing the lyrics from Minguinho's perspective, the only person who understood that Zeze had no malice and was innocent in his actions. The only reason adults viewed Zeze as cunning was because he took his pranks too far in their opinion.

3. [+158, -16] I got goosebumps at this part "Look at your two blushing cheeks, you're so innocent, but you're definitely cunning, you may seem clear like a young child but you're dirty somewhere, no one can tell what's living inside of you" ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ I can't believe IU wrote this...

4. [+86, -1] Are all of you defending this honestly thinking it's okay that IU wrote lyrics telling a 5 year old child to "climb on me"?? Really?

But IU has always had a Lolita aura and concept going on for her. lol

If people there never noticed is because they were too dumb to realize it.

Have people never read her lyrics before??????

Lol. But their webtoons and manhwas say otherwise.

Btw, who is this ''amateur photographer''? Some random Pann girl?

Hmmm I will always like her music no matter what

(Plus what's the big deal anyways, she's already an adult. It's not like she committed any crimes)

The only reason netizens are acting this way is because they saw her totally innocent and assumed she was,

now they see something different they try to make her out to be a "fox" or sly whatever

I bet most commenters also have sexual desires (if thats what tehy think the song is about)

so I dont think IU needs to be blamed for small things like this.

she doesn't need to be that innocent/ first nation's sister title holder forever

It's burdensome anyways. I'm glad she's trying out different concepts

I have a question:

Is the witch hunt for IU this real in Korea right now or are translators just stirring shit?

Regardless, Zeze is my favorite song on the album.

I want to say it's mostly this. Most of the articles are coming from Nate and Pann, and shouldn't be taken seriously. Her songs are still doing well on the charts, so the general public isn't turning against her. It's just kids on Pann and some commenters.

However, if you read the book, you cannot say that Zeze, an abused child, is cunning or sexy.

um i love iu but yall can't deny that if she really said this, it was very poor word choice. idols have been criticized over saying less controversial things in a stupid way, yet this is actually sort of  .... yall van be all "slay queen" you want to, but acknowledge that her words here were not well thought.

also the little boy on the cover with the stockings  .... this is like the only legitimate complaint are yall not seeing this?

edit: oh and im not saying she's a pedophile or sexualising zeze (the child character) im just pointing out that her words in the interview + the image on the album are a bit of a poor choice considering the story.
