Will Alex's addition to RaNia effect the future of K-pop?

For the first time we'll be seeing a non-Asian (correct me if I'm wrong though) join a K-pop group, and not only that, but said idol has black heritage, being mixed race.

Will this open a gate to labels to introduce more Westerners into K-pop groups as a way of further appealing to international fans?

Will it do nothing?

Discuss it all here.

Hopefully if RaNia succeeds it shows companies that foreigners can succeed in kpop, especially foreigners that aren't white (Even though Alex is partially white from what I'm seeing) and give foreigners the opportunity to join kpop.

If this group works out well, this could be a really progressive move for foreigners and POC in Korea. But I kind of feel like that might not happen... I mean, this company is clearly low on money and has bad managing skills.

probably. if she's actually staying. but you never know. michelle lee was even half

korean but people swerved. the only respected half black is yoon mirae but she's

not an idol. that's a whole 'nother ball game. considering how much people "love"

their culture though, this could be a make or break for both her and rania.

I hope it will lead them to be . . . . possibly more open to POC?

Koreans are POC

oh yeah her too. but even her girl group career was a flop just because of her outer appearance.

she had to sing famous ccm songs to get to where she is right now. she's a singer that's grown

and became respected through experience. it's really a different story when it comes to idols. but

from how the media is receiving this whole alex thing, it seems good? everyone's talking about how

pretty she is.
