IU's twenty-three and twenty three are two different songs!

Because there's so much confusion going around

The 1st song is iu's title track Twenty-three which she DID have a hand in the composition of the song.

The 2nd song was the ost for producers which iu put on her album as a bonus track. She DID NOT compose this song but only contributed to the lyrics!

Yes it's all very confusing having two tracks with pretty much the same title. Yes it was a probably a mistake to not properly give credit where due but people seem to have a misunderstanding that iu composed the song since they're getting the title and ost mixed up.

I just wish some people didn't just jump to conclusions without even fully understanding what's happening.

ps. this is my first thread so please be nice :) And tell me if I did something wrong :)

EDIT: also I don't know whether it's plagiarism or what not cos I don't have any musical background to give a proper insight. Just wanted to state that they are two different songs :)

She should have just titled one song '23' and the other 'twenty-three'.

I dunno why they titled the two songs so similarly but they probably didn't think that it'd cause a problem in the future especially since the producer twenty three wasn't released digitally.

It's a shame though.

... this is actually very helpful.  I didn't actually wonder why the youtube link for 23 was not the MV link, but I didn't understand why it was a bonus (or an OST for The Producers if it was supposed to be the title track) and when I listened to the mashup I found it really hard to place it in the 23 I'd heard. XD

It looks like her title track has a korean name (even if it's just twenty three?) and the OST might not, though.

I don't know why korean artists keep waiting for their company to speak for them if something mess happens. For me, at least IU should apologize about this scandal, explaining she has done nothing to the sample/beat, saying that she will tell the company to check this case then release an official statement. It's a wise choice for her than remaining silent.

Aha I'm glad this thread helped :)

Oh and yep I actually got her album today and at the back the title track twenty-three is written in korean whilst the producer twenty three was written in English. But since they both translate to the same word in english it's all just confusing.

side note and a little OT info:

literally 'the shower' and '23 ost' were only added to the album due to fan demand.

Fans wanted a full version of 'the shower' and IU said she'd complete it and see if it would fit the album

with the producer ost, fans wanted that song too, IU said she'd check if she could add it, and eventually included as a bonus track, CD only. There's no online purchase for this song.

we'll see what the conclusion is tho.

I don't get why k-netz are hating on IU's artistry when (1) she only wrote the lyrics (2) songwriting IS a creative process hello!

Not to mention even if the dude who composed 23 really did take Gimme More's bgm, at least give them credit for making it a totally different song, not a k-version of the original. Especially since it was just a side song for a drama and not something IU had any intention of promoting (or even including in her album at first!)

Ah well I guess IU already addressed her haters already :P

I thought one is named "Twenty Three" (Chat shire) and other is "23" (Producer Ost). I like 23 Producer OST better.

Fans name it 23 to make it easier to differentiate between the two. But looking at the actual physical album she named the title track twenty-three in korean and the producer ost as twenty three in english. Since they ultimately have the same name it's quite confusing.
