Enjoying a crappy day

This morning I had to go downtown for a work appointment.
Usually this is about as uneventful as it sounds, however I happen to live in a rural middle of nowhere area with more cows than humans in the neighborhood. While this place lacks infrastructure and pretty much all the urban conveniences, I still love it. The closeness to nature and being able to regularly watch wildlife strolling around your lawn is something I really appreciate.

Today, as I don't drive I needed to take the bus to town. However, a combination of my own lacking mental facilities and various modern technologies conspiring against me meant that I wouldn't be able to properly pay for the ride. Not wanting to gamble on getting a free ride it just couldn't be helped, I would have to walk the 20+ km to town. Having to bring my old, bulky laptop along certainly didn't improve the situation. Alas, a plushie's gotta do what a plushie's gotta do so around 5:30am I started plodding along the dirt road through the woods towards the distant civilization.

The road passed through a spruce forest with large moss-covered rocks strewn on the ground. The sky was clear and the full moon's light created all kinds of creepy looking shadows on the ground. While walking through this troll forest, the Diablo game music (

) came up on my playlist. Listening to that music in this environment, I could almost see the monsters and demons from the game roaming around in the woods, a pretty surreal and awesome feeling. Next song was Babymetal's "
", which was just bizarre in this setting. After that, Loreena McKennitt's "Dante's Prayer" (a slow soothing song) came up as I was crossing an open field. The fresh smell of wet grass and mosses filled the air and the soon to be rising sun colored the horizon in a lovely mix of pink and orange and the atmosphere went straight back to awesome.

Finally, I made it in time for my appointment and the rest of the day passed without incident. Before getting on the bus back home I also managed to pick up a six-pack of dirt cheap beer (yay!) which I just finished in order to replenish my stamina. Right now I'm feeling pretty good about things and am preparing a hot and spicy curry to round off the evening before collapsing in bed.

I'm not quite sure what exactly I intended to say with these ramblings but I'm gonna post it anyway

I suppose the moral of the story is that no matter how crappy your day might seem, there's bound to be some joy lurking out there so go find it and cherish it to the fullest!

Take care.
