Why do you think Running Man is bigger than 1 Night 2 Days internationally?

I used to be a big fan of RM back in the day, but got tired of it and stopped watching it around the beginning of last year. I tried a bunch of other shows and didn't find anything I liked and just assumed that K Variety just wasn't for me. Then over the Summer I started getting into JJY Band and found out that Jung Joonyoung was on 1N2D season 3 so I started watching the show. I'm now completely hooked the show is hilarious. I probably laugh out loud at least once an episode. When I searched for the 1N2D thread it's 5 pages long  :horror:

RM just seems so soulless these days but 1N2D is the exact opposite of that. The members interact a lot with the staff to the point that Yoo PD is practically a 7th member. Jung Joonyoung being hot and winning everything with his wits. Cha Taehyun always being a proud father and egging people on into doing crazy things. Kim Junho with his devious plots that never work and fighting with Jongmin. Kim Jongmin with his cluelessness but sometimes surprising everyone when the days where everything just works out for him. Kim Joohyuk who you expect to be the ace but really is the worst. Defconn always being concerned about everything, but also doing the most to help the occasional guest get really close to the members quickly.

Korea obviously likes them as they are the highest rated Sunday variety show this year in Korea. I just find it odd that the international fans haven't caught on. Is it because RM is more guest heavy?

People enjoy different things? I watch a ton of Korean variety but couldn't make it past 5 episodes of 1n2d S3. 1n2d S1 is hard to live up to.

I still love Running Man, but I tend to enjoy episodes without guests more. You have to remember too that Running Man does not have a strong lead-in while 1n2d had The Return of Superman.

it could be because RM is more guest heavy. or it could be because it has games?

1N2D is great but the cast never moved outside of South Korea and sometimes I feel like they've gone to a place before and the games are rather repetitive and we know who's most likely to sleep outdoors. it is fun tho.

Running Man bring a twist with the guests though I will admit the last episodes just with the RM cast were better than the last ones with guests. they also switch the games so maybe they bring a more interactive feeling for foreigners.

I tend to watch RM first too.  there is Yoo Jaesuk and I actually like all of the cast a lot. the bickering between them is amazing.

I am still not convinced with Defconn when it comes to 1N2D's but it has gotten much better than in the beginning.

I think the guests and swap of games makes RM more appealing to most people while 1N2D's feels more calm.

Well RM used to be really great and original back when it started.. I think most RM fans watch it out of habit this days when they are bored. It used to be more popular tbh even with international fans.

I tried to watch 1n2d ..I just couldn't get into it . I guess that's the difference to RM ..you don't need much time to get into RM it's simply and entertaining.

Woah, what a coincidence. I've been recently getting hooked on 1N2D S3 just a few days ago and was watching the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" ep when I came on OH. Wow.

Anyways, I've been doing some research and a lot of original 1N2D fans disagree, they think that the new show is terrible and Yoo PD is boring and a bad director compared to Bird PD who was a legend. They say that the first original season was the best and comedy gold, and tbh even 1N2D isn't that funny to me, but it's entertaining enough compared to the clips I've seen from s1.

Internationally? Well, internationally only kpop fans bother watching k-entertainment besides koreans so of course kpop fans will flock to RM first because idols go on there all the time.

IMO Running Man is better. During the summer the eps were really boring and unfunny, but RM just recently became funny. They're on a better road than 1N2D that's for sure.

The first couple of eps of season 3 the members are really awkward with each other. Jungmin was emotionally scarred from season 2, the cast didn't really understand Jung Joonyoung, 4 of the 6 members had no idea what was going on. If you stopped at ep 5 you didn't even get to the point where 3G was created. I'd tell you to give it 10 eps before you completely write it off.

1N2D S3 >>>>>>> RM for me. i enjoyed RM in the beginning but then their concepts started getting super bizarre and too unrealistic for my liking lol. both shows have a script to follow but RM just feels so .. forced to me at times? like their banter isn't all that natural, whereas the 1n2d cast plays off on each other really well & that type of humor suits me more. my parents actually like watching 1n2d s3 now :''')

I think you mean Na PD? Bird PD was from the first year of season two.

I like a lot of the members; I've always liked Jongmin , Junho is hilarious, and Cha Taehyun is one of my all-time favorite Korean celebs. Outside of Defconn, who I found somewhat awkward/annoying,  I'm not really sure where my lack of interest comes from since when I first saw the cast I was extremely excited. But it's been close to two years now, so maybe it's time to give it another try.

Nope, older fans said that bird pd was practically an extra member and was very humorous.

that was the first ep I watched that hooked me on, someone on OH posted it in a seolhyun related thread and it was like love at first sight.

Huh okay, I've never heard Bird PD called a genius. Na PD was the one with the Midas touch.

i've never seen 1N2D once but i am hooked up on RM. i think it's just exposed more thanks to variety of guests but at this point i personally watch it for regular cast. it sometimes becomes dull with lack of originality and i get tired of it but i keep coming back.

i love cast and their characters, i like how they edit show, i like that they shoot it in different locations, on streets, i like name tag ripping game, i like their betrayals/scheming, i like little silly things like how they drive themselves etc.

i don't laugh out loud often but i kinda enter the state of slightly but permanently amused when i watch RM now  :)

actually I think the general consensus is the season 2 was horrible. Season 2 barely lasted a year before KBS got a new pd for the show and restructured the whole cast.

I tried 1N2D, managed about 15 minutes. Maybe you could recommend their best episodes?

Why international fandom stans RM:

1. Guests

2. Not a sausage fest

3. Lee Kwangsoo

4. Monday couple

BTW, same for Infinity Challenge, I think.

seriously 15 minutes? If you can't manage a full ep you didn't even want to give the show a try.

Seriously it was so boring, I almost fell asleep. It was ep. 92 and the same guests were hilarious on RM.

Full episode is over an hour of my time and time is precious. There are shows that I like and there are episodes that I skipped in those shows for the same reason.

Haha them running away from crayfish PD is gold. They really got great chemistry, not just between 1 member and another. No matter how they are partnered, they play off of each other so well. I love that the staff gets involved too and the guests aren't always celebrities, yet they still are able to make me laugh as much or even more then the cast themselves. Also I feel like, because the show doesn't heavily rely on guests as much as RM, the cast has more room to improvise on scripts and flesh out their character's. Which in turn makes you come back to the show for their hilarity rather then which idol is appearing in the next episode. I also like that they still stuck with the survival concept and that they don't always play games ever episode except for when its for food, punishment and sleeping arrangements. Although this is a variety show, they still are able to explore and learn about the locations they shoot at more deeply then RM while doing the whole variety thing. So even tho they haven't shot outside of Korea...or maybe they did, but I haven't gotten to that episode yet. I feel like they don't have to. Because the members are able to make every episode worth watching.

I'm 72 episodes in through season 3 and there hasn't been one episode that I felt like skipping. While in RM, I skipped a few episodes, just because I didn't know who the guest were. So I feel like guests have ruined RM for me. I hope 1N2D gets even more success in the future and are able to keep this cast for a while.

P.S. their maknae writer, Seul Ki is cute af.
