Certain students at the University of Electronic Science and Technology in Chengdu, China are being punished for tardiness. Students must write the character 1,000 times. The professor who created the punishment says that it deters tardiness and also promotes Chinese culture since it originates from the Shaanxi province.

 

The character is believed to be one of the most complex in the Chinese writing system. 'Biang' has 58 strokes. Many people claim that they cannot write it more than 200 times because the character is so complex.

 

The character is not common and has not yet been added to Unicode.

I know Japanese, so I can take apart this character and write it. I just tried and it took me like a minute and a half to write it. It's not hard, but it'd be annoying to write for sure. I wouldn't be able to do it 1000 times lol.
