ImInCloud13 10,942
People aren't that interested in power house vocalists as they were back in the day, They aren't as praised. Nowadays people praise more unique voices. Adele also isn't some type of Celine Dion vocalist tier though. People just look for music they like. Arguably the last powerful vocalist have been Christina, Beyoncé, Kelly Clarkson. There are pretty good singers tho: Sam Smith, Ariana, Demi, Gaga, Bruno, etc
Rapmon's Ahjussi Husband 2,299
Because she's british, white and fat ( yeah, even now) with a lil' touch of hood, so is understandable people will identify with her more
JeongBAEHyun 1,841
because not only is she vocally talented. the media play, brand power and the fact that she breaks stereotypes (eg: she's plus sized) is also the other factors u must consider on why her success is so big. Fruit 8,880
because being able to sing or belt out notes isn't all it takes to be successful, Adeles selling point is her friendly relateable persona and the emotion in her voice, her songs are also relateable and she writes a lot of her own stuff. Joji. 5,062
It's because she's white. Tons of black female vocalists (Jazmine Sullivan, Jill Scott, etc) can sing circles around her.

removed929393303 15,230
I don't think her popularity truly stems for her vocals. People are overly drawn to her "newly single, heartbroken, not over your ex so you're gonna continually harass him over closure, got no friends but you have 23 cats and probably own sweater vests" music. People that listen to Adele don't want other people to know that they like her because they lost their bf/gf and are in their feelings so they harp about her vocals as a distraction from the fact that they're really just lonely hos. They prob listen to her music in the dark and cry into crochet blankets.

Lmao shes not a chav at all, shes just not as polished which again is what people like, the normality of her, and a lot of people connect with her voice, it's your opinion and personal taste of what singers you like to listen to, but just because you don't personally like it doesn't mean it's wrong for others to do so. kissxkiss_baby 5,756
To me Adele isn't that great though. I've heard singers that re better than her and I feel like if you've heard one Adele song you've heard them all. She's just not for me, I find her songs a tad bit depressing and her performances are boring. Even though I like the fact that she's vocally talented it isn't enough to make me stay interested. ImInCloud13 10,942
So why is Adele being treated as an anomaly? It's mostly hype because she sold 30M+ albums basically and it's someone people see as ''normal'' not too flashy, chubby and such. Not controversial. So she's respected. Tbh she isn't the belter type of singer she can't

removed929393303 15,230
SCREAMINGG OMGGG I can't deal with Adele's "I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited" ass and now she has a new song about calling to talk after the relationship been over. Like, take your stalker behind home and leave your exes alone. She's as bad as Drake, always going through it over her exes.

Oh ok but if you noticed recently the industry is already pushing more vocally talented people, Sia, MØ, Charlie Puth, Meghan Trainor plus Adele is not 'the only one', she's just very hyped. There are a lot of talented people in the industry tbh, especially these days, you just have to search them

They can't pretend to care about her personality because she doesn't do that many interviews as far as I know and she's very private. I mean she vanished after her last album. So the find other things to pretend to care about, like her vocals. They're really obsessed with her because either they just lost their boo or they're pretending they just lost their boo and they want to wallow in self pity. It's pretty much why I don't listen to her, I hear people rave and I just don't get it. She and Taylor Swift are anomalies to me not because they are overly talented but because they are so popular and yet their appeal just goes right over my head. ImInCloud13 10,942
Also I don't think people are treating her as an anomaly They just aknowledge her as a good singer. She is just is capitalazing of the success she found in 2011 between all the electronic trend. That made her as an artist seem very talented, relatable and not annoying or controversial. PiedPiper 315
Then why is the industry not pushing more vocally talented singers? Why is the public not embracing more vocally talented singers? Why is Adele being treated as an anomaly, when if the industry / public dug more, they'd be able to find more vocally talented singers? cause moving people's emotions is more than being vocally gifted. Pop artist use a shortcut to create a reaction to the audience by using sexual imagery, subliminal messages, addictive beats and etc. this can also be explained by peripheral route to persuasion where as audiences are swayed by the superficial characteristics. Adele is so great cause she actually move people with her voice and music. Other examples would be Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and etc. etc. She and the other uses Central route to persuasion where as people needs elaboration which makes the audience engage in to thinking about arguments and actually listening carefully to the message. I had to google some of it wahaha
