Do you think there is an optimum group size?

Well 5-4 member groups seem to be doing well.

I don't think it depends on talent as much as it depends on variety skills, beauty and catchy songs.

Marketing is also a big factor in a successful group.

Most successful groups have 4-5 members.

Looking at SM groups, it seems to be either 5, or as many members as you can fit on a CD cover and still distinguish their facial features 

 

 

 

 

 

But really, 5 seems to do well in many cultures. Idk why.

4-7 seems good. I personally seem to like groups of 7 a lot, but i consider that my lucky number.

I think it depends more in the talent:member ratio... If you have 5 members and only one of them is good at singing/dancing/face/variety/whatever, it'll be hard to succeed, same as if you have 9 and only 3 are "talented"

People don't care about talent as much as the overall look and sound.

Catchy songs = win

But other people do still care about talent, so it's good to have a member or two with a really good voice and wide vocal range.

One member is enough though.

 

I think 4-7 member groups do well.

9 is a bit much and will make people compare to SNSD.

It mostly depends on the looks, likeability of the songs and members, how catchy the song and dance are, and personality.

4 for absolutely fair vocal line distributions (something BEG and Miss A does right). but for 4-membered groups with 1 sub vocalist who rarely sings (Dasom, Hyeri) 5 members are acceptable. 

 

Dance formations look better with 5 members though

 

6 members are too much, like in VIXX, Exo(s) or Shinhwa where Hyuk, Xiumin, Suho and Junjin have 1-2 lines per song

I think the public likes smaller groups because it's easier to remember 4-5 faces rather than 10-12. And I guess when you have more members you can attractive more fans. But once that's settled then it comes down to the music you put out and your skills.

but i have exceptions like for girl groups snsd is my exception and for boy groups exo is 

 

im not into huge number groups but im also not into tiny ones like 2-4.
