Why jpop has such bad rep?

There are people saying the same about Kpop though? Reputation also depends on the circle of people you are in really

It still has, that reputation of being high quality, and by hormonal teenage girls being better than jpop.

Because Japan don't target international market. Therefor people have to discover them themselves.

Then comes mass-media who likes to make money, what do Jpop have? Weird/Unique stuff that the West doesn't.

Report on the weird and the unique. That or those with concept the west deem questionable.

Easy profit.

Then it spreads and people only spread the weird stuff cuz it's funny and it's weird.

Then comes the stereotyping.

It's very simple really.

I mean, look at the 2 article below and be honest with which one you'll click (Or the one you think most people will click).

A-Type news

"Meet XXX from Japan, the talent who have broken Japanese music record"

or

B-Type news

"Meet YYY, an underage girl group who have overwhelming number of older man as fans."

Also, as sad as this may sound, reporting on 10 A-Type news, would probably generate far less discussions, clicks, re-tweets, whatever, than a single B-Type news.

Therefor, B-Type news being the favored choice, and with B-Type news continue to be pump out... Yeah.

It's simple really, far too simple.

Well known by who exactly, Japan or outside Japan?

Both. Idol groups are the bottom rung of the music industry hierarchy. There's a reason why you have LDH and Tokyo Girls Style shunning the idol moniker even though they're all very much idols. It's also why you'll see LDH fans vehemently say that LDH acts are not idols. A lot of people don't want the idol stigma placed upon them.

It depends if you're a music fan or someone who just wants to be... shocked.

Your answer is very good. I've seen a lot of articles like this.   (._.)

Nothing wrong with Arashi though

What about it's sales tactics?  How it shunned digital completely and centered the JPOP Market mindset around it. Giving it to the rise of groups like AKB48 which uses the same tactics as Johnny Groups? Johnny didn't get to the top by being accessible, he did it through social and market manipulation.

Arashi sales tactic is no gimmicks what so ever - so what, AKB saw that and said, let's do everything they aren't doing?

You can diss Arashi's music (it's too bland for me personally but tastes are different) but their sales methods are very simple: a regular CD + a limited edition CD (that's actually limited and usually sold out in pre-sales, so after that it's only 1 version). No extras (except the MV which is pretty standard for music releases in Japan), not even a nice cover. AKB48 on the other hand has million versions, handshake tickets (to the point they have to recruit new girls all the time just to have enough girls to shake hands and there's still a backlog), voting tickets, photocards...).

AKB goes for records over profit in the sales division (although they still rake in enough through sales) since that's their way to keep their relevance. Arashi doesn't really need that since they have their variety & dramas & movies so they can just put out enough music (with no frills) to put on a tour and they still sell enough (but they aren't going for records).

I don't get what not selling digital has to do with anything - AKB do sell them, Arashi don't. It's not like Arashi (or Johnnys) are trying to blacklist digital market. They just don't use it because it doesn't really bring much profit to the labels/agency/artists (especially a tiny and fractured market like Japanese is) - it might be something for a smaller artist but once you are making as much as Arashi does it's kind of pointless. It would be even more pointless with the groups that sell less since 10.000 - 50.000 CD's at least breaks even and that much digital sales doesn't even cover the production costs.  The only good reason of going digital would be for international market and most Japanese groups (with Johnnys more so) couldn't care less about that.

Thank you

And Japonism is their first album in a while to have 3 versions. Their other albums only come into 2. This is the only album that's gimmicky. And if they don't want to do digital, that's their choice ( inconvenient tho sigh).
