Microsoft no longer lets you opt-out of a Windows 10 upgrade

If you haven’t already updated your computer to Windows 10 and it is eligible for a free upgrade, then prepare yourself for more aggressive update notifications that no longer give you the ability to opt-out.

Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users are reporting popups that inform them their Windows 10 upgrade will be installed in one hour. Users have the option to start the process immediately or reschedule it, but there is no longer an option to opt-out of upgrading altogether, ZDNet reports.

Not even GWX Control Panel, a third-party tool that allowed Windows users to avoid the upgrade before, is able to sidestep these notifications at present, according to the app’s creator, Josh Mayfield.

“If you are seeing either of the above two screens, exactly as they appear here, GWX Control Panel is not yet able to help you,†writes Mayfield, “although I am looking into whether it’s possible to fix these things through software. I do not have any recommendations at the moment, though, unfortunately.â€

It was discovered in September that Microsoft was pushing Windows 10 updates, weighing as much as 6GB, to computers even though some users hadn’t requested the upgrade. With the new notifications as well, it seems the company is literally desperate to get as many people to upgrade as possible.

Pressuring users into doing so isn’t exactly the best way to go about it, though.

Yeah that's what I tried to tell someone when they asked me, they stop you from downgrading back to windows 8 or 7 after a month or after you've dl windows 10, so your stuck with it.

I upgdarged to windows 10 the minute it came out, I hated it,  I was going to wait and see if I could get used to it, but I just went back to windows 7. Windows 10 did some weird shit to my laptop at first.

I hate how fucking aggressive they are being over it. I tried it, it didn't work out for me, I don't want it. Therefore I shouldn't have to use it.

My next laptop will not be a windows based one that's for sure.

So, you're getting a Mac?

Everyone will be using Macs tbh, Apple's just dominating the technology industry.

Mac is like 9% of the desktop/laptop market. I don't think Microsoft is even bothered.

Windows 10 is great (have had absolutely no problems on either of my installations) but it's early. They haven't even released 10.1 so I wish Microsoft would at least wait until their first service pack is out before this forced push but I get the reasoning why. They want people locked in so they don't have to deal with XP/Vista/7 support as I am sure they lose tons of money on it.

However, some people still use Windows XP even though it's 14 years old, buggy, and with no security. It's because it just works and that's what they are used to.

In every single way, Windows 10 is a better OS than Windows 7 so, unless you are absolutely so tied to Windows 7 and you can't leave or Windows 10 isn't working for you, you really should upgrade while its free.

I only have windows for playing some games.

And I will do everything to stay at windows7 because everything is working (which is a wonder), and I don't even know if my old games will work on win10

and the more microsoft will force people to update the more people will run of to apple  :ahmagah:  (I never experienced any update issues with apple, its always perfectly working, idk what microsoft is doing)
