In a recent interview she stated that she wasn't a feminist because she believes in the equality of the sexes. Skip to 6:41

The definition of a feminist: "a person who believes in the social, economic and political equality of the sexes"

I think the problem is the word lol. With the thing starting with "fem", I can see why so many misunderstood that the word only stands for females. Anyways I still think she should take the time to educate herself about it but since she has the right idea, just telling her the actual facts is enough. This doesn't need to really be blown up lol js to everyone who will make it to be a big deal.

disheartening that she was focusing more on distancing herself from the word like it was something dirty instead of the fact that her fan found the MV empowering... i mean. it was a strange response like she was in disbelief about it all lol

Can't blame her for making such a mistake when I see what kind of "feminists" roam about the internet nowadays.

+1

Anyways, equality is egalitarianism, no? But that's besides the point--I'm surprised that Ailee said this. Interesting. I would have thought that she would endorse a ''feminist'' image to appeal to her fans, judging by the kind of concepts she typically goes for.

She's so freaking dumb. It's already the 21st century but still there are so many dumb women who still think that feminism means man hating and bra burning. If she believes in the equality of sexes then she's by definition a feminist.

Just because someone believes in equality doesn't mean they're a feminist. That's like saying someone who is religious is by definition a Muslim. First of all, there are many different equality/human rights movements. Feminism doesn't have a monopoly on equality. In addition, there are a lot of "feminist" ideologies that are uniquely feminist. Feminism has always been constructed around more than mere equality.

Well I mean, feminists don't really care about men's issues. I've yet to see feminists organize an event and talk about male suicide, or male prison rape, or the staggering number of homeless men — not just in America, but everywhere. At the end of the day, feminism is a women's movement.

oh no ailee... please educate yourself it's never to late

it's so sad that many people still misunderstand what feminism is about

Feminism needs to be judged on the actions of its advocates, not the dictionary definition.

can someone explain to me  what is feminism exactly?

like what is someone who is feminist supposed to do?

say it in a simple way

i tried google but it was kinda complicated and long and im not good at English..

call me stupid i don't care

Feminism is basically women's rights. People can try and play the dictionary definition all they want but in reality feminism today has nothing to do with equal rights.
