from the spoilers everyone seems to be saying it's boring

i still have to wait for the subs

but why tf is the reply series always like this? they keep dragging it for too long and it becomes boring

like why tf is junghwan being ignored? people are saying he might get more screen time in the next episodes but come on!!

there are way too many things going on why aren't the resolved yet? isn't the drama close to an end? are they going to have a crappy ending and leave out a long of unexplained things??? and when exactly is junghwan going to confess???

i get that he loves his friend

but he just can't give up on the love of his life for that one reason..............

i'm tired of waiting for junghwan to have a proper scene with duksun tbh

if the drama drags on any longer i might quit watching....

does anyone know how many episodes reply 1988 is scheduled to have? I thought that it would be the usual kdrama amount of 16 but I saw on asianwiki that there will be episodes 17 and 18..

edit: nevermind lol   the comment above answers my question

I hope they keep focusing on everything else but the main couple as the Reply triangles have always been my least favorite part of the show.

I do not envy this writing team at all btw.

What sucks is that this show does so many things right. The character development is stellar. Literally every single character has had some sort of development, even little Jin Joo. You get their personalities, their likes/dislikes. The ability to balance everything is just amazing. The acting is top-notch across the board. They nail the nostaligia and the vibe of that time period. The scenes are emotional and pack a punch (I literally got scared when Jinjoo got hurt and was legit worried even though it's a TV show).

However, this show has the buzz and the ratings because the majority of the audience is actually there for the family and nostalgia aspect of the show.  There are a lot of ahjummas/ahjussis that watch the show to remember their past and to connect to the family. However, you have that younger crowd that is into the couples and trying to "guess" the triangle and watching the male leads that make them hot and bothered. You gotta be able to balance between the two and Reply has never really gotten that right. Well, actually they have but the younger crowd who wants the show to focus on the main couple/triangle primarily starts to get frustrated (like clockwork) around ep 12-14.

I am loving the show right now and I am actually dreading the focus on the triangle coming up. Frankly, Duk Sun's best moments have been outside of the triangle (her dealing with the seizure of her classmate in the latest episode showed her reputation and her heart). Taek is actually way more interesting when he's in the Baduk scenes because he's clearly battling between focusing on his obligations of a champion and wanting to be a normal kid with normal pressures. Junghwan, to me, is easily the most boring character on the show. I know he's eye candy but I have no interest in his story at this point and he's basically outshined by every single member of his family. I'm sure writing contributes but some of it is the acting too. Not to mention that neither really has THAT much chemistry with Hyeri (Bo Gum probably has more)

Sunwoo/Bora are the most interesting couple by far because the two actually have legit chemistry with each other and I think that's why the writer focuses on them more. Hell the Jung Bong/Min Tuk couple has hella awkward (adorable) chemistry and I LOVE how they focus on each of the mother's and their personalities/struggles. That's one thing Reply 94/97 didnt do as well and it's a welcome change to the series.

The previews are annoying though XD but I ignore them and just watch the show with an open mind. It will help ^_^

omg!! did you just read my mind?? bcs everything you wrote is the my same thoughts about this drama..

tbh i do really hope dukseon is go with taek,i feel like taek deserve dukseon more, especially knowing that she's always helped him to fix his bad habits such as taking the painkillers and etc.

For me, Junghwan is the most well written character among all 3 reply series.

The love triangle component generate hype and it's what makes it different from the 50episodes family drama.

Ep13 is the first episode that I fast forward.

Ep14 is good after I watch it with subs. I also love the focus on Deoksun in this episode.

From what I read, most of the complaints are about all that focus on his family. Most of us will rather have the focus on DongRyong and his family.

But what did Taek do to deserve Duksun more other than needing her to help him with his bad habits? Wouldn't Sunwoo Mum be able to accomplish the same? What can Taek give Duksun?

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree with Junghwan because I honestly don't get it with him at all ^_^

i'm basically hoping taek can change his action so he can be more confident to show that he cares for dukseon, i remember he decided to follow dukseon to toilet bcs he wants to make sure that she's fine (with an excuse for smoking)

I understand. Different people view things differently. But since you mentioned he's your least favourite I feel obligated to mention he's my favourite character too.

Yes, Taek need to take more action. I hope the writers don't dragged and let him confess in the next episode.

i also want junghwan to confess to taek how he feels about duksun

i swear if junghwan just keeps it himself and then it becomes too late...i'm going to murder someone

i don't get how some of you want taek with deoksun tbh (btw i forgot how to write her name lol) he literally THINKS he likes her but it's just because he never had a mother and duksun fills that space for him. she takes care of him and everything. that's why he THINKS he likes her. he maybe admire her but it's nothing serious at all. as for junghwan, the poor little thing might actually love her. but he also loves his friend so that's why he doesn't know what to do (tbh they better let him make a move or smth in the next ep....seriously...he better be wearing that shirt for her to see it).

you can see how he thinks of her and how he feels about her and how he lets her lean on him. HOWEVER, for taek he's the one leaning on her. like if they actually were real people and they dated i'm 99% sure they won't last. i don't know how to explain it but taek doesn't have feelings he just thinks he does. even if he does it's nothing compared to how junghwan feels.

i love junghwan so much but i don't get why the writers are sleeping on him....seriously let him confess ugh.

and in the preview for the next ep when junghwan's bro comes running to  duksun i feel like he's going to tell her about the shirt which will make duksun like him even more.

I just want either 1 of them to confess. I am not worried about it being too late, just that we are not getting cute moments before the time skip. Junghwan also mentioned that his brother needs to focus on university entrance exam and I see this as another reason he wont be confessing to Deoksun - he wants to focus on the exam.

I do think Taek likes her as a woman. He also watch erotic movies like the other boys, I am sure he wants her as a women like Junghwan does. Taek love for Deoksun is like Junghwan love for Deoksun in ep3-6(For Junghwan, I see ep3-6 = puppy love, ep6-10 = he's in love, ep11-14 = he can no longer stop himself from loving Deoksun).

For Junghwan, ep13-14 is frustrating but I feel that ep11-12 is when he realize he cannot resist Deoksun. His heart tell him to take a step back because of Taek, but his actions is saying that he cannot stop himself.

not really

like another user said, if his dad and sunwoo's mom get married then she can give him everything deoksun gives him.

it's because he never had this type of affection.. for example, let's just imagine deoksun travelling somewhere far for 1 year. taek is obv gonna be happy like always and say goodbye to her and that he can't wait for her to comback..... and in that time period another girl met taek and she treated him the same way deoksun did, he is going to fall for her. i;m not saying he doesn't see her as a woman, i'm saying that he doesn't actually LOVE LOVE her..lol am i making sense? anyway...as for junghwan, if deoksun went away, he'll be devastated and he'll probably never get over her :(

junghwan deserves to be with her. i swear if the husband isn't junghwan..................................i don't even know what i'll do....

it's because the husband is obv. junghwan and that makes me scared that the writer is purposely making the husband act like junghwan and then in the end turns out to be just a grown up version of taek  :._.:

i really really really miss the cute scenes between junghwan and deoksun

i hope they have more cute moments in the next episodes

I understand. I still think Taek likes her as a woman. But I feel that Taek love for Deoksun is far from being as deep as Junghwan love for Deoksun.

Yes, Junghwan can definitely never get over her which is most likely the reason he will have all that ex-girlfriends before he got together with Deoksun. I also think Junghwan will be the husband. It has always been obvious in the first 2reply series.
