Tbh both shipping fans have been rude to one another. Soompi being the worst I would never understand shipping wars but both shipping teams we're so immature and they bashed each other and the actors. It's fine to have opinions and say who you would have prefer as the husband but both shipping teams were both rude and immature about everything since the love triangle started. If Junghwan was the husband we be seeing the same kind of action from Taek fans too. Seriously I don't understand shipping wars lol. This was probably the worse one out of the reply series.

Agree with you, all stans have been so rude to one another.

I'm still annoyed at this show tbh. Why push the husband tag to Jung-Hwan in the first place.

This drama has left me the most heart-broken of all the ones I've seen. At least in other dramas you usually know you're headed for disappointment. Here the hopes were high till the end ='(  . I still have loved R88 despite that though.

Despite feeling somewhat sad and empty, I do treasure Junghwan's character a bit more with this outcome because I can so relate to him. I've also always been unsure, hesitated a lot and probably ended up letting the opportunity pass whilst liking the same friend for years. I guess Junghwan is meant as a lesson for all of us "Junghwans" out there to go for it, to not take "love that is meant to be" for granted and assume everything will fall into place  . Still a somewhat cruel reality to take out of this drama, especially given how self-less, loveable and hard-working Junghwan is, but I will treasure him in all his qualities and flaws nonetheless.

ah this so much. I got really frustrated with him because he kept hesitating. then writers gave us a fake confession and that really was just unfair for both dukseon and junghwan. he deserves to have a proper confession or at least let us know that dukseon took it seriously and she knew of his feelings.

ever since reply 94, there's been hardcore shipping wars lmao. I still remember how much the show, trash, and even jungwoo himself got bashed especially on soompi. I hope people don't do the same with bogum if he really is the husband. although I already see people saying it's taek just because it's bogum lol pls stop.. CB should've been the husband with that logic

people also keep saying the ending got changed last minute(like they apparently did with CB lmao...  :derp: ) but like why would they change it from junghwan to taek though? everywhere I go, the majority wants junghwan as the husband...

Eh, im not even mad anymore the drama turned boring during the second half save for a few scenes here and there. I think the writers had no choice to go for taek because they completely shoved junghwan to the side after ep 12-13. Im not sure if it was intentional to shove his character like that since the begining or if it just sort of happened and they had no time to push him to the front anymore so they felt that it was better to go for TK.

In the end reply 97 was the best from begining to end and i think if they want to do another installement they should make it a 16 ep series instead of 20. U could tell the drama was losing steam around ep 16 anyway. A shorter series is better.

Anyway good job to the actors who all acted well.

I can't really feel good with junghwan shipper that gets angry and compare the ship war to 1994,

in 1994, int fans are 50-50 but the writer give chilbong attempt to gain najung heart and he did his best, so he deserve the chance and the support, then they take the broken heart together because he did all he could, we did all we could, she just didn't choose him, okay but we hold pride in our confession.

in 1994, trash is always in the favor in Korean side and people accept it because chilbong did his best and trash confess+propose, she makes the rule for her

then people calling out popularity as taek winning bet, come on, even in soompi, junghwan thread had 650+ page and taek was about 300+, the majority always love junghwan more than taek

maybe the writer wants to pay homage for other type of guy that deserve the win, it's not some random guy that pop out in half of story, he has history, he pursue his love, he works to get acknowledge more than a friend, why belittle the hard work, he wins her and he deserve it.

Why hope the girl has some secret ability to really know the guy who loves her without any actual confession?

Taek and DS have story together too,

Just finished watching the last eps.

Unlike quite a few viewers, I have no complaints whatsoever. The ending was perfect. I love the pairing (especially SunwooBora :rlytearpls: I was sooooooooooooooooooo happy :ahmagah:  :la: ). Overall this was expected of the Reply series. The story is very meaningful, mainly about looking back at your youth, but also about the experiences you go through while growing up. Kinda sad that "Trash" was the only cameo from the other series but oh well. 10/10 would recommend!  :megusta:

Now then... who else are watching Moorim School?

I'm also watching SECRET Jieun's drama "Sweet Home, Sweet Honey" but the script is so horrible :wth:. I'm trying very hard to stay for all 120 eps. If it wasn't for Jieun I wouldn't watch it at all. Most of the time I'm watching the drama like this --->  :unimpressed:

jesus christ I've never cried so much in my whole life...

I thought crying at a scene every single episode was already enough, but the last two eps I was literally crying from start to end.

It was so relatable. Every character, every scenario, every relationship (not only in love but also in friendship and mostly family). I couldn't hold back my tears from the pure, heartwarming feelings this drama gave me every time I watched it.

While I was born in the 90s and thought this series wouldn't make as much sense to me as did 97 and 94, this one just beat everything else by far. The themes are universal and you don't need to be Korean or someone who spent their youth during the 80s to feel connected to it. The stellar acting just made it even more real.

And I was so glad that this time the focus on the main couple and future husband thing was nothing more than another piece of a much bigger picture (besides being media-play for the series ofc lol). I was amazed by how they didn't even need to show DukSeon's wedding or people finding out they were really dating. That's because all characters were so well written and developed that all scenes felt meaningful and the drama didn't need to rely so much on this gimmick even during the final episodes (I'm looking at you Reply 94).

After spending some time away from dramas (especially the generic romantic comedies), I am so happy to have found this gem. I will definitely never forget this, and hope more people will look beyond the husband thing when they watch this. To me, Reply 88 is a drama about family. Friends can be family. Lovers can be family. And of course, there's family connected by blood. But whoever we may choose to call that, the memories we create with these people are the driving force of life, aren't they? <3

While the first episodes felt like coming home after a long day of work, the final episodes were really like a teary yet beautiful farewell.

I hope I can fill this void in my heart one day

Hi all!

I'm new to this thread. I just finished the drama!

I have never in my life been so affected by a drama. It was done so freaking well that I felt like I had become a part of the their world. I was actually tearing up as the drama came to an end. I'm missing the drama, its characters and their world so much. And I appreciated how they carried out the romance plot for Duk Seon.

I truly believed it was gonna be JH in the beginning and rooted for him over Taek for a large portion of the drama. But with time, I started appreciating Taek more and more for Dukseon. The fact that the drama convinced me to change my mind (even if it was late in the game) and then actually had her end up with Taek was great. It really was.

The writer showed why JH didn't get the girl in the end and it made sense to me that there should be a consequence for his decisions. Both guys held back for each others' sake but after all that time, if your love was truly that important, you act on it. And they both did. But the hesitation divided them. Most k-dramas fall into a trap with this and have the girl end up with "main guy" no matter his faults. Even if the second lead is more sacrificing, more compromising or even seems to be more in love. They usually give excuses for the male lead like being distracted by his ex who now desperately needs his help. I don't think JH and Taek can ever (EVERRR) be categorized into those typical k-drama male roles, but I appreciated the message nonetheless. Acting on your love should get you the girl in the end and not because you're "fated". I truly adore JH, saw more dimensions to his personality and my heart ached for him but like I said, it made sense for me to see her with Taek in the end.

Though a big part of me wishes we had two Dukseons for each of them. Sigh, JH :._.:

I really want to contact the writer of this drama and congratulate her for doing such an incredible job. I've never wanted to do this before with any other show but this drama has given me a lot of firsts. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could contact/mail her a thank you letter? I haven't been able to find anything online.  It's sad that her amazing drama isn't getting the recognition it deserves because of the JH/Taek ship controversy.

So if anyone has any ideas, I would REALLY appreciate it.

Thank you!

So i just finished the last episode yesterday, and guys, I'm having major drama withdrawals right now T_T

This is no doubt one of the best K-dramas I've watched and is on-par with Reply 1997 for me.  Honestly, from beginning to end, I was so emotionally invested in the multiple story lines and of course, all the great characters.  While I did like the husband hunting aspect (you can't do a Reply series without it), I think what got many people hooked was just the family aspect and the aspect of youth.  It was so endearing to see how they all depended on one another in some way or form.  No lie, if my emotional pathways in my brain actually connected to my tear ducts, I would have been a sobbing mess in each and every episode.

Honestly, the only gripe I had with the show was the ending.  Not because Jungpal wasn't the husband (I figured it was Taek about halfway through), but because they brushed off Taek-DS's relationship in the end.  All I needed was an extra 20 minutes of them informing their families of their relationship and showing at least part of the wedding and it would have been golden.  Besides that, this was an amazingly well-written drama that I will definitely be watching time and time again.

Also, I've now become utterly smitten with Park Bo Gum. I'll definitely have to watch his other dramas when I have the time.

Maybe even the writer didn't know how to enact the problem of having the same in laws. lol

I imagine your sister marrying your husband's brother.

Ended up typing a short essay.

I've just finished properly watching all episodes (yeay) and I can't be more satisfied. Everything about this drama is perfect; I love the way they carry the family theme without drawing back the love idea. Every relationship is portrayed in very detail manner, and very relatable to us as audience too. I cannot count how many times I cried over Bora's story or Jung Hwan's family. I love how they portray the siblings relationship, how they bicker a lot but deep inside they love each other so much. Although I know DS is the main female character, I cannot easily relate myself to her situation, but I can do so with Bora's character.

Regarding the ending... To be honest, I was one of JH supporter. I really like him as a character and I was rather disappointed when DS ended up with Taek. I guess Ryu Joon Yeol did a great acting representing his character. It was very natural, very charming. But after watching it for the second time, I realised that Taek deserves DS. I'm not saying JH doesn't, but he hesitates too much. There are a lot of occasions when he could confess, or maybe show his affection, but instead he pulled himself out and sort of give up. Meanwhile, Taek, regardless of his competitive nature or not, did not hesitate as much. If I was DS, I would've gone with Taek too. Haha.

For me, the best character in the drama is still Jung Hwan. Apart from how cute he was with DS, I love his relationship with his mum and brother. I remember there was an episode when he made a mess on purpose so that his mum could feel as if she was needed in the family. And that shooting star scene, when we discovered that his dream was always his brother's. He wasn't perfect by any means. He's not the all round golden boy like Sunwoo, or the cute dork like Taek, but somehow he's the most captivating one for me.

I've never rooted for a character this much. Dang. I felt like watching a drama where the main lead lost the girl to the second lead. Hahaha.

Hi, I'm new to this thread. I'm not a new fan of the Reply 1988 series though. I came from another forum who blocked our threads because of the "shipping wars." I am happy to find a peaceful forum who really appreciated the beauty of this drama.

"Youth Over Flowers - Africa" had just started airing last Friday. The ratings broke the previous three editions. Based on the previous editions, there are at least five episodes for this.

If you can understand Chinese, the Chinese subs had already been released. I had previously heard that Ryu and Park's fangroups are planning to do the Eng subs but I'm not sure if they had been done.
