Does anybody know what has Sooyoung done to her face recently? I know she's been messing around with her nose since predebut and she has been experimenting with lip filler as of recently, but she looks really stiff and different in the pic she posted on Insta. Is it just fillers or something else?

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cexr2xCPCQW/

now I don't know what exactly she did, but first photo does not look like sooyoung at all 😭 I think the resting face makes her work obvious, contrary to when she's smiling.

Agreed for sure, but as drastic of a change it is, I'm surprised she doesn't really have that "plastic" look some people do? See the recent Sooyoung pics someone just linked, plus Kylie Jenner and the likes. Jennie's lips are full but not very rubber ducky to me, for the lack of better term. Could the rubber ducker lips just be freshly filled, hence the look? Or is this a difference in surgeon technique/material? Or am I just missing some Jennie content where they're looking obviously plastic?

Okay this isn't plastic surgery but I know some stray kids members have been mentioned here a couple of times for looking uncanny, but this is them with more natural styling

I've already talked about the zombie/crazy styling being one of the factors as to why some idols are starting to look a bit unsettling before, but I think this just proves it more. Like yes, the work that they've done is still there, but they look so much more charming and fresh in these photos, compared to when they're wearing the thick white foundation and crazy lenses. I personally think they look great. For comparison, this is Hyunjin and Felix with their usual concept styling:

WG paved the way

For real though, enough of this uninspired lowrise jeans and vaguely "punk" fashion, let's bring this shit back (ignore the predator):

triangle3.jpgtvxq.jpg

bring back the visual kei, bring back the maximalist aesthetics of 2000s and 2010s kpop (everyone hates it but i love aespa's stupid futuristic concept, it's so kpop)!

(love how Changmin looks like he wants to die in every photo from this era)

I LOVE aespa's concept too lol, the outfits you inserted are debatable but generally fine. The hairstyles though? Absolutely not 😭 The idols from the earlier generations have sacrificed enough!

i'm sick of groups doing half-baked "y2k" concepts (coughenhypencough) when they're all attractive enough to make this over-the-top stuff look good.

Sorry this is also out of topic for a ps thread, but enhypen?? 😳 Excuse my rambling because I'm a sucker for good lores lol

Spoiler

If anything I think they're one of the few groups in the new gen with an interesting concept and dramatic lores, albeit with less crazy styling than the groups in the past. I know this because I remember some of my friends getting scared of their debut mv for giving horror vibes and they also gained some attention last year for their prince concept (though looking back now I think they've consistently had the royalty concept since debut except for their last comeback?) Their only actual Y2K inspired concept was Blessed-Cursed I think, but even that one is because of their storyline. Definitely think other groups out there do the half-baked Y2K concept more rather than them, they actually have a pretty good storyline what with the vampire royalties, orphanage, greek references, high-teen and different dimensions so I'm not sure if y2k is the overall vibe they're going for as a group in the first place. Plus points because their mvs and lyrics follow the storyline while also representing their idol journey too. I generally think HYBE and SM rock the lores the most out of big 4.

Edit: Upon further reflection, I think you may have meant that you wanted them to go all out when they did the y2k inspired concept for one of their comebacks and I got too carried away talking about their overall concept and lores 😅 My bad!

Gaeul’s face is looking tight and plump. Also she’s platinum blonde now and according to the ‘thing’™️ that could mean she got some things done.

(I’ll never stop wondering why idols under 20 would need filler, at all.)

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png

I see what you mean for sure, but let me just take this opportunity to ask – am I the only one doubting myself whenever I see unedited pictures of idols? It's like, I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is them looking different or this is just how they really look like without all the heavy photos hop and filters. In this case I do think her face is fuller and the makeup/hair isn't really helping her as well. Though if I didn't have an idea of how she looked outside these photos, tbh I wouldn't bat an eye lol. She looks a little different but otherwise normal since a lot of other idols also look like this. Only the second photo is throwing me off and it may just be because of the lenses.

I was shocked when I saw itzy's latest teaser because of how Yuna looked, but now she went blonde and honestly... it suits her?

Not gonna lie, Yuna has been stressing me out since after Icy era because she just looked more and more... unsettling after each comeback. Now I'm not too sure if most of it is just in part due to her styling, but it's quite obvious she had some changes after Icy. Anyways, it may be too early to speak but regardless, I think the new hair (which affects the makeup too) makes her look more youthful again. She looks cute and I feel happy for her after her stylists somehow managed to age her up like five years more for their previous comebacks. I may have a bone or two to pick with the jyp stylists lol, especially the ones involved with some members of stray kids, itzy and twice.

Curious about something. I've read posts on here about Yeji having gotten multiple things done to her jawline and the parts below it, as to define it and make it look overall sharper. It's often the area right below the jaw and the cheek area above the jaw that can make a face look less sharp, so I wondered if HYBE was going to do something like JYPE did to Yeji to Sunoo.

This is apparently from today apart from the last two pics plus the collage pic, although they're recent. His jaw does not look that defined normally.

Compare it to this picture, some promo thingy for their new single/album. It was taken a little while ago, as he clearly doesn't have orange hair anymore.

spacer.png

What I'm trying to say is: did he do something? Slight liposuction (millimeters make the difference in big kpop groups' procedures) or something to do with his lower cheek area (the buccal)? — and wouldn't it take some time to heal, as I've seen some buccal fat removal pictures and people swell up.The whole thing could also be the lighting in the studio he's in, plus like two weeks ago (still black hair) he looked more normal and full in his lower facial region.

Tbh he does look sharper, but I don't think the sharpness is isolated to his jaw region alone so maybe he just lost some weight since they're having a comeback? I'm having trouble spotting an actual sus difference because he honestly kind of just looks like how he did during debut/i-land 2nd part era.

Sunoo-facts.jpg

(This is a gif of him speaking while eating for good measure lol and his jawline is still pretty clear)

I-LAND-Sunoo-gif-1.gif

Also, aside from the photoshop, those promo pictures seem to be an unreliable comparison because of the angle 😭 I look like I'm at least 3 kilograms heavier than I really am whenever pictures of me are taken from below.

The fits are gorgeous tbh but they've somehow messed up all members except Chaeryoung for the photoshop and makeup. Lia could've been fine too if they matched her foundation to her neck and the rest of her body 😭 Yuna's eyes look d3ad, Ryujin looks like she's fighting to stay awake, and this looks like Yeji but not Yeji. This is becoming a habit for itzy editors damn

I don't follow gfriend closely so forgive me if I'm very late with this, but eyes aside, did Yuju do something to her lower face? I remember her having a longer face and more prominent chin but in that new pic her face just looks tiny. I searched up more recent pictures of her and it does seem like she got something done on her chin/jaw, but is there a consensus as to what procedure it was?

The difference is pretty noticeable from before.

Felt like sharing this video here since we've had a similar discussion some time ago about procedures. Beauty standards change just as times do, but not perfectly fitting into what's on trend doesn't mean you're any less beautiful. Didn't like the little comment about "not eating for days" but I do agree with her when she said we need to stop treating our bodies like fast fashion. Rock what you have and find what's beautiful for you, everyone! ❤️

Not the usual discussion about celebrity ps but – does anyone here have a clue on how ps will affect evolution in the long run? Will there be effects at all assuming the trends on the field keep increasing? We tend to lose features we no longer use or develop another feature based on needs (after multiple generations of course) so it made me wonder lol

Love me some Karina, but couldn’t help but notice that long cut against her nose. Am I just seeing things? Or is that an actual scar? 🤔https://twitter.com/whiterice94/status/1542125404374200321?s=21&t=xpXLW2L9H3IWXdMP8edGNw

The positioning looks a bit off for a surgical scar, so I'm inclined to think it's probably just an illusion of something else or her sunscreen not being blended properly like the user above me suggested.

not an idol but heize. i found her so gorgeous but as of recently she looks really different and i don't find her as attractive anymore. she's not talked about here and i'm not like a fan of her anything so i'm not sure exactly how she's changed over the years and all that. something changed, i can't tell what and i feel like i'm going slightly crazy.

2016:

2019:

2022:

(could possibly be a filter or editing, not sure where to look for content of her so i'm getting multiple images just in case)

spacer.png

Wait omygosh – I'm actually kind of upset onehallyu doesn't have a proper reaction option for this because I genuinely wanted to react with a proper 😵 face. Definitely noticed the changes from 2016 to 2019 to 2022, but even though the difference was apparent, she still kind of looked like other celebrities with the likes of Noze so it didn't particularly "jump out" so to say.

But my goodness, that picture of her with blonde hair 😭 that looks like a whole other person and idk about you but it's not even an exaggeration on my end. I don't think any of her original features were retained at all. However, she does also look far different in that last picture than the other ones you included, so I think a large part of the uncannines may just be because of editing.

Well I think actors get less work done because too much filler and such can effect your ability to emote and looking too 'unnatural' can shut you out from certain roles. Like they are expected to be extremely attractive but in a way that still feels like someone you might know or imagine yourself to be and can be adapted for different roles, whereas idols are meant to be their own unique marketable characters. An example of an operation that makes sense for an idol but not an actor is the 'joker smile' or other lip-lifts which give a stand-out look but effects the ability to emote. Actors do more of the typical double eyelids and nose jobs.

Agreed with this, but I have to mention that it's also fascinating to me that the actor/actress type of visual is usually held at a higher standard than the idol type of visual, and the acting industry in general seems to be more respected than the idol industry. Notice how top visuals among idols are usually described as being fit to be actors/actresses? And how many of them eventually transition into acting? I find it interesting because idols seem to do the most work to look visually striking, are extremely overworked, and not to mention controlled, but the job still gets looked down on albeit unconsciously (mostly in Korea, idols are adored internationally). Like they definitely have many fans, but that doesn't mean they're respected. Idk if I'm making any sense lol, just wanted to share since I've always noticed the difference of treatment towards actors and idols in Korea.

This is disgusting. you're comparing idols being objectified, sexualised, and looked down upon by other industries (which is bad and worth being called out!) to literal sex slaves who were systematically raped and tortured by the japanese military and then gaslit by the japanese government post-war. these are not equivalent at all. shame on you.

I see what you're trying to argue but I really don't think you should use the term 'comfort women/men' when describing idols given the history that has for Korea (and comfort women were women forced against their will to be prostitutes for the army of a foreign nation).

Spoilering because it's unrelated to the thread

Spoiler

This is pretty late but I just wanted to say I'm sorry for making the comparison, at the time I didn't realize the weight of the terms I used. I just looked it up and only learned of the gravity and history attached to the name, which really wasn't my intention to equate with the situation idols are in at all. The only reason I used the word was because I've seen several fans, not just in kpop, refer to their faves as their "comfort ____" in terms of making that celebrity their main source of happiness and fully rely on them for emotional support despite said celebrity not knowing them personally (that's why fans become furious when that celebrity "breaks" their happiness), and this mainly happens to musicians compared to other celebrities even in the west. I know many people who use this term to refer to loved ones they're grateful for as well (though it's usually "comfort person" for them and it felt weird saying comfort people in plural so I used men/women instead), so I didn't really think past that definition when making my initial post. I see now that it was careless and I should've known better as someone who's been a fan of KPop for awhile now, I'm sorry again to anyone who was made uncomfortable about it.

On the topic of body procedures and enhancements, does anyone know how to tell when someone has undergone a procedure or if they're just taking pills? I'm not sure if an idol has openly talked about it (I know it's been mentioned here that male idols sometimes use steroids), but I've seen and know women whose bodies have changed due to it so I'm kind of curious how much these differences in breast size, etc among idols can be attributed to pills alone. I've also read that a lot of female idols and trainees don't even get their periods normally anymore, so could there also be some hormonal imbalance there that may affect how their bodies normally look as well?

I know they're extremely new and there isn't much to go on, but any initial thoughts on New Jeans' Hyein? She's their youngest member (2008) so obviously she's still growing, but there's some pictures of her predebut already and idk if there's something I can't quite put a finger on (felt a bit this way even before seeing her predebut so maybe I'm just not used to her type of visual?) She looked more like an awkward child before, which is perfectly normal, but now she somewhat reminds me of a Bratz doll and I'm not sure if some of the features she has right now are the same as the ones she had before (or if it could all be credited to puberty). A lot of her predebut photos also look a little... weird to me. Like she looks like a legitimate doll in some of them so I don't know if they're edited, and a normal kid in others. Is it just the styling/growing up or??

I remember pointing out how Sunghoon (Enhypen)’s face had gotten wider, specifically in the cheekbone area or the part below it (where an implant could sit idk) but I also argued that a narrower jaw could create the illusion of wider and more full cheekbones. So either buccal fat removal, jaw shave or cheekbone implant.

That was a while ago though. Then I see this today:

https://twitter.com/pannchoa/status/1561594421027618816?s=20&t=q1_9RDHJeseTDjuGzSMfOA

Just some reference photos from when he was on I-land (which might’ve been edited, but even from live footage his face - cheekbones in particular - was way narrower than now) - found the photos in the comments of the Pannchoa article:

961a7542f988323fc66dd58dc5375b5100103237

30c96478fa8b3b69043b9645bf17b89ba30061e6

I'm surprised no one pointed out how it isn't accurate to reference these official photos from i-land AT ALL 😭 They're very known to be overly edited. Sunghoon's face shape has always been on the round prominent cheekbones side and it's evident on the show and in his predebut pics.

I think the comments made by knetz seem to be alluding more to weight gain or something of the like instead of a full on surgical procedure to significantly alter his features like you mentioned (jaw shave, cheekbone implant). It's also worth noting that gaining facial mass as you age (especially from puberty age to adulthood) is actually quite normal... though I definitely think fillers and botox are a possibility as well since there are times when he looks a bit full to me too, but it mostly fluctuates and I've never paid enough attention to differentiate possible fillers from just occasional puffiness of the face. That and styling/angles seem to make a lot of difference since his cheekbones stand out more with shorter cropped or out of the face hair.

He was also quite smaller when he was a trainee (as are a lot of idols, I've noticed) and has been bulking up for quite some time now, which might have affected how his face looks depending on how he bulked up. If he has gained weight overall then it's not impossible for it to show in his face.

Then:

images-jpeg-176.jpg
images-jpeg-179.jpg

Now:

images-jpeg-178.jpg
images-jpeg-177.jpg

TLDR: imo he just gained weight/is puffy or had fillers/botox at best

Also, some New Jeans stans should stop with the ''it's puberty'' narrative it's kinda embarrassing lol

I'm actually quite surprised with the Minji predebut pictures. There's been photos of her since 2019 I think? Since she appeared in those Plus Girl promotional videos. She's young now but was even younger in those, so I always thought she largely looked the same then and now with the exception of a few "standard" procedures for idols that just refined her features. I guess I'm just surprised that the newly released childhood photos don't exactly look like predebut her either?

images-jpeg-183.jpg

Like the predebut picture on the right still very much looks like present Minji, but not so much the pics you posted?

Over the years she developed a more Olivia Hussey-esque blueprint, whom netizens closely compare her to. Maybe it's just the bangs and loss of baby fat that makes all the difference, but it did make me wonder how early she started with the procedures... Though I also wouldn't cross out puberty, since I looked wildly different when I was in elementary to when I was in my early teens. Idk

Edit: by "puberty" I only mean the change of her looks from the post I replied to vs the predebut picture on the right that I posted. I think she, like most idols, has undergone through some procedures before debuting.
