I usually lurk here but the whole Yooa situation (her blaming facial bloating for her plumper lips and double-eyelids) has given me some thoughts.

1. I wonder why idols who've always gotten praise for their looks end up getting plastic surgery. Yooa has always been praised for her "doll-like" face and proportions so why the surgery? It kind of reminds me of Son Naeun who decided to get a 2nd nosejob when she was practically a "top visual" with her first one. Seems like being told by countless people everyday that you're beautiful isn't enough to keep you off the table? Is it cause they're insecure or is it the lust for more praise?

What happens when someone isn't the only pretty person in the room? They might not feel as attractive. In a group full of regular folks, an idol would stand out for their visuals. The problem is that idols are only ever around other idols. I think it's called the "contrast effect." 

Another issue is that in Korean entertainment there's an emphasis on individual features rather than how the features looks together. I think this amplifies the awareness of any imperfections an idol may have. They end up thinking their "flaws" are bigger than they actually are (Naeun), and that their good visual attributes are all they have going for them (YooA). Instead of simply calling an attractive person attractive, they have to bring them down by mentioning a feature they have that is thought to make them less attractive. 

Off the top of my head I can recall Tzuyu and Seolhyun getting called top visuals, but prettier if they had whiter skin. Another example is people saying that Doyeon is interesting to look at, but that her nose is wide. I even saw someone say that Wonyoung would be a top visual so long as her chin stopped growing. The mindset is that they're only as perfect as each individual characteristic is. Rather than thinking that things like tan skin, wide noses, and round/square chins are charming attributes, they see such features as handicaps.  

In Naeun's case, I wasn't too shocked when she did her nose because people had been bringing up how "flat" her face was from the side for years. No one really doubted that she's pretty, but comments suggesting that her flatter side profile detracted from her beauty probably got to her after a while. 

As for Yooa, I think it stemmed from the hype she received for her "doll-like" visuals. She might have felt it necessary to emphasize those features (hence the unnecessary eye work and lip fillers). She doesn't just get comments calling her pretty, it's usually stuff like, "Her eyes are so big and her face is so small." These kinds of comments, though positive, might have led her to wonder why she got so many comments complimenting her eyes, but not her nose or lips (idk how to phrase this but I hope it makes sense). In a way, comments praising really specific features can make people just as insecure as negative comments

I worry about idols that have any kind of outstanding/striking features for these reasons.

tl;dr The entertainment industry is full of attractive people, so I bet there's pressure to highlight attributes that are deemed positive and "fix" anything that might take away from their looks, leading idols to get unneeded nose jobs, jaw shaves, fillers, etc.

I don't know if it's still a common procedure or if the idols rely on makeup more nowadays but I'm sure some do get the filler.

With Twice it's hard to tell because their mua goes super heavy with the aegyo-sal makeup

 

I think this kind of makeup just doesn't translate well to real life (same for the heavy contouring that's popular in the west). It looks better on stage with heavy lighting. I guess it's not really a problem for idols and other celebrities because they're always being filmed, photographed, edited, etc.

I think his jaw looks slimmer/less angular? In some of the recent pictures the area around his jaw seems less structured

How do fat grafts to the forehead work? In this picture the patient is swollen and the fat hasn't settled yet, but the result is still really fascinating to me

Long term, do fat transfers to the forehead look more natural than forehead implants? From the forehead implants I've seen, one issue is that there's an indentation around the implant that's visible sometimes. 

I think Dayoung's forehead implant is decent (one of the better ones I've seen tbh) but I guess the indentation issue isn't avoidable even if the work was done well.

Do you guys know of any idols that have gotten fat grafts to the forehead? I want to get better at spotting it 

Edit: Does Exy have a forehead implant? I tried searching but didn't find much

SF9 are my ult group and I posted about them a while back but I'll give my current opinions here (my older post was kind of a mess):

Rowoon - nose job, epicanthoplasty, double eyelid surgery, and fillers

Inseong - nose job

Dawon - nose job

Youngbin - natural? (he has very few predebuts and the ones he does have aren't great quality but based on them, I don't see any major changes. I do find his jaw to be kind of suspicious but I couldn't find any evidence that it isn't natural). 

Jaeyoon - nose job (he's another one with like no predebuts but his nose demonstrates a lot of the signs of a (slightly overly-done imo) nose job. It reminds me a little of Lee Jongsuk's nose pre-revision though not as extreme.)

Chani - natural

Taeyang - natural

Zuho - natural

Hwiyoung - natural? (he has what could be alarplasty scars but I honestly don't see a change in his nose from predebut to now so I'm more inclined to believe that the "scars" are just discoloration.)

Do Inseong's eyes look any different to you? I don't know if it's his eyelids or outer corners but they seem more round/open. I could be wrong, but I've followed him since debut and I can't help but feel like his eyes look different now

Within the fandom, yoongi's well known for his small teeth (its a big thing for yoongi stans lmao)

It could be crown lengthening. I think the bottom part of his teeth look the same but there's more tooth exposure toward the gums

maybe it was just a glow up idk. but anyways I always liked his visuals a lot cuz it's sharp but well-balanced, even if he doesn't look like the kpop visual standard

 

I wondered about him for a while too. To my knowledge he's been bulking up since around 2019. I don't remember which video, but he brought up how happy he was that he gained weight because he was insecure about his skinniness before. I think he didn't finish developing/growing into his features until recently. The weight gain really made a world of difference though

I totally agree about the gymnastics/cheerleading part too. Every gymnast or cheerleader I've seen has been really muscular. People want them to do the sport but also have no muscles? It doesn't make any sense. Every so often the discussion about starvation in gymnastics pops up but unfortunately nothing ever seems to change.

Does anyone know where the incision is made for a forehead implant? The implant itself seems pretty large, I wonder how big the cut has to be to fit it. I assumed the incision would be made at the hairline but I've never seen any idols with visible scarring there

I think you're right about the eye distance. Kai's eyes are also pretty wide set but his nose is wider as well

 

A while ago people were talking about how Karina and Yeoreum kinda look alike and I think it's because of the widely spaced eyes. But again, Yeoreum has a wider nose to balance out the rest of her features

What caught my attention was the front profile. From the front his nose is straighter than before but I can't tell if it's just editing or if he did something to correct the bridge.

I didn't want to say anything because I know he was out for anxiety but in his first vlive back, I thought his nose looked a little different too.

Sorry to double post but someone brought up Seonghwa's nose a couple pages back and it really does look like he did something again. I was hoping it was just editing but even in bts videos it's different. The tip is higher and the bump is reduced
 

I'm a little sad because I was fond of the bump on his nose bridge and the slightly droopy tip (I thought it looked really elegant in a way). At this point I'm just praying ateez stop altering things before it gets out of hand

Yeonjun's upper lip is really weighed down by the amount of filler he has. It seems like his philtrum has gotten longer rather than shorter, but isn't the point of the lip lift to shorten the philtrum? I'm new to TXT and I just can't figure out what he's going for with his lips. Maybe he's wants a really specific lip shape?

A lip lift decreases the distance between the lip and the nose. To my understanding, it's usually done when the upper lip is too long

I'm still mourning the loss of the bump on Seonghwa's nose bridge but I'd be lying if I said there wasn't some improvements. My biggest gripe before was the front profile. Personally I think it still looks "done" like in a plasticky way but overall it's better than before.  

I'm not sure if these improvements could've been made with just filler or if he indeed went back under the knife but whatever he did worked. Considering the results of his previous nose job, this revision was pretty nice imo

I've looked up how the procedure is performed before and it seems quite gruesome tbh (worse than jaw shaves in my opinion), however the results are surprisingly subtle and beautiful, especially compared to jaw shaves. Cheekbone shaves might be much more common than I initially realized.

I knew I would regret googling this. One website I checked said some people can resume their regular activities after only 2 weeks? After reading about the techniques, 2 weeks seems a bit... short? I suppose such a short recovery time is possible because the cheekbones don't move, whereas with a jaw shave the patient would have to suspend harsh movement for some time.

Anyways I think you're right about the results being more subtle than the results of jaw shaves.

I don't know if anyone here is familiar with the models from the 90s but Linda Evangelista posted on instagram saying that she had CoolSculpting done in 2016 and is now "permanently disfigured." I don't think she's specified in what area she had the procedure done but some are speculating it was her jaw and stomach

Apparently there's like a 1% chance that CoolSculpting could result in the opposite of what it's supposed to do (an increase in fat in the area instead of fat loss) but she wasn't warned of this risk? She doesn't give a lot of detail but I'm assuming the results must have been rough because she had two surgeries after.

The other big supermodels from the 90s have been working but Linda hasn't really been out much since 2016. I feel pretty bad for her. I guess the moral of the story is to practice caution?? Tbh I'm not really sure what to make of this situation
