You can say that with Karina "wow some people are just born pretty", she was very pretty predebut. If she really got anything done like jaw I'd say she looks better predebut, so yeah some people, like Karina, are born pretty. And she still looks very pretty, specially on videos where the v shape is there but it's not as exaggerated as her selfies/pictures (probably because angles/filters/edits)

Korea needs to stop with their obsession over v jaw line. When this trend is over, and it will be someday, I don't know what these will people will do like beauty standards always change over time.

Is there any way to distinguish if someone got fillers or jaw shaving? I mean how you know if it was jaw shaving and not fillers or vice versa?

jaw shave is very easy to notice, in some cases you can see whole jawline go, fillers on jaw area is used for sculpting usually, means giving a proper jawline in contrast to a bit more blurry one, very few kpop idols would need that they are already very thin and Korean beauty standards dont lean towards too big face, so i seriously doubt anyone of them, unless they have a very weak jawline would do this

In most cases it gives a square effect, which is so outside of Korean beauty standards.

Like I said, Karina looks better on video than official pictures/(actual) selfies or at least for me but maybe she looks the same for others lol

I took screenshots from radios, meaning not edited videos and lighter make-up than official videos. She still looks pretty now but she already looked good predebut. Since I don't like to assume anything, if she really got something done she didn't need it and much less a more sharped jaw. Don't know what SM was thinking.

She looks good on motion to me. I mean she's tall with long legs and neck and small face but she looks fine and not weird. Maybe it's the long neck the thing bothering you? For me I don't really care but I've seen a few people not liking it.

Honestly, south korea is ahead of us. I can't not see how PS won't become very common between everyone in the next 30-50 years as techniques get better and results will look more and more natural except if you are looking for more unreal look

I don't know how SM girl groups looks like but RV looks more natural, not counting wendy jaw while with aespa, intentionally or not, you have Karina jaw and Winter perfect nose. If they hadn't touched Karina jaw and they had gone for a more natural nose for winter, they wouldn't have got as many they look plastic comments, plus all that photoshop on their teasers. Still Winter looks more or less the same as her predebut pictures and I'd like to see more of Karina with casual make-up or non make-up at all to compare with her predebut pics and also a timeline of her predebut, sadly her social media is gone. You'd think SM would learn the lesson to not touch jaws when it's not necessary but it seems like they don't want to give up on that V shape, feel sorry for some idols.

their nose looks exceptionally fake, considering they are so so SO young, im hoping its solely fillers hell even pegs, but they have very unnatural nose structure for me. You can have a straight bridge, but members I listed, have unnatural curves on their noses from bits and pieces i saw of them (photos MV etc) for really young ones it might be peg, but i guess its time we realize plastic surgery to children is not banned, its only advised against. 

its odd because implants are risky, i wish he didnt touch it again after iland, enhypen in general... even as trainees members seem to be picked somehow beforehand thats why they had PS? this would explain sudden Japanese group too, but.... who knows rip 

You have kpop fans getting mad at anything slightly "problematic" but when minors are getting PS/cosmetic procedures they don't bat an eye, of course they should admit first their favs aren't as natural as they think. It's not like we can do much but companies and parents should be called out more, I won't blame a 16 years kid for thinking they don't look good enough.

to my knowledge parent consent is obligatory but... i always said and will continue to say, SK needs some type of trainee protection system, even funding is fine, that should control contracts, and determine their legality, and protect minors. 

Yeah there should be more laws to protect minors specially since the most of them start being a trainee when they are minor, the whole industry revolves around looks so I can't imagine the pressure those kids must feel. It's already exhausting to not know if you will debut or not for them.

Don't know if this video has been posted yet but Ningning after she got into SM with 13 years old. She was so cute (also she looks skinnier than now)

 

She's lucky there aren't many pictures of her predebut after 12 years old. These are the more recent predebut ones but no idea how old she is on each one of those pictures. And now Ningning looks the older of the group, with make-up at least..

I think it's a very complicated topic and the positive reaction to PS would be bigger if results would look very natural most of the time but then you have some people who end up not looking like a human anymore lol I'd never get something done because I'm happy how I look like, how dangerous PS is and because I don't want any chemicals on my skin or go through a knife if it's not neccesary (medical reasons) but if someone would propose me "would you change some part of your face without any injection, cutting or risk?" You know like when you create a sim, I could say yes but since it's not happening.. Other people would prefer to face the risk of something going wrong if there's a chance to look better, to each one their own.

That said, it's wrong when someone gets something done because he/she is under very pressure (actors, idols..) or influenced by opinions of someone else (ex: idols with companies/family/partner..etc).

About beauty standards I don't know what to have to happen so people embraces diversity like SK who look for bigger eyes, v jaw shape...etc everyone will end up looking the same at the end.. I wish people would learn to appreciate beauty with different facial features and body proportions like different shapes and sizes eyes can look pretty and the beauty standard shouldn't be only looking for a determined shape and size.

So I just wanted to write something. Before I knew this thread existed and I clicked on it, I was one of those fans who wouldn't never pay attention to PS on idols and in general like unless it's something very very obvious I won't think of it or I wouldn't notice anything. Same when I see predebut pictures like unless there's a big change or someting very off, I'd just see the pictures and move on so when I checked this thread it was an eye opening how many idols and how much PS/cosmetic procedures they're getting even it's just minor or subtle things or enough natural looking for those like me who wouldn't notice. I have to admit it's turning me off of kpop a bit and it's not just because of PS but because it makes me think about what's going on kpop beyond music and how cute idols look like. I don't know how you guys can keep up with all PS stuff all the time without going a bit crazy or feeling a bit sad. At the same time it makes me think of idols as more humans, more relatable if it makes sense.

Idols themselves... Honestly, depends from person to person. Some idols mentioned they don't want ps, some mentioned their ps, some mentioned it was due to some bad reasons they got ps. Really, depends on person, you can follow first type of idols, if it makes you less sad ;-;

Oh don't worry, it's not triggering me more like it's turning me off of kpop and the same thing would happen if I start thinking about any other industry. Sometimes it's better to turn a blind eye to enjoy things and I think that's what I will do, keep enjoying kpop without thinking about PS much, I'll try to not come to this thread too much for that lol

You see ear to jaw connection point? You can see here it's a bit too soft. Normally in a person that is that thin, you have a sharper bone structure as bone there is sharp with everyone unless surgery due to its function. 

In predebut Karina, you can see her jawline was more obvious, it "smoothed out" later, but they are covering it really well with Botox and fillers tbh, they do that with Jaehyun too, and unless you noticed in time, it would never be too obvious unless it fades out. The thinner the person, better jawline will be seen.

"You see ear to jaw connection point?" You mean that 90º grades angle? So it's soft (jaw shaving) vs sharp (natural) right? So in Karina case is jaw shaving + botox/fillers combination? Wow and me thinking that one thing would be enough (jaw shawving or fillers/botox) but they're just getting done everything they can.. Do you think did they shaved Karina's jaw too much?

For jaw shave yes, it seems to be the new SM thing, they get jaw shave then get Botox or fillers to cover it up a little as it's very apparent in some situations. I think it's because they go overboard in jaw shaving, hence cheeks drops down, causing a "chubby" look when it's literally just skin sagging. Tbh, it's low-key genius to hide it like this

Thanks to everyone who replied!!! I'll never get Karina jaw thing decision, it's one of those times you say "SM and the surgeon need jail time". I wonder if it's because she had chubby cheeks but they could have tried something else without going to the extreme of jaw shaving first. That said, tho the jaw could be better, I can't say they didn't do a good job with her, a bit uncanny valley but she looks beautiful.

Anyway I hope none of these idols have any complications now or in the future since they start with PS/comestic proceduers so damn young and I hope they're happy with it at least because the cost of it is high.

Her current face shape. I‘ll never forgive SM.

Her face is naturally fleshy and she had a defined yet short jaw. This probably made her face appear rounder and wider than SM wanted it to be. If you look closely, she had already had her chin area narrowed down and sharpened during the promotions of Taemin‘s WANT, but is her naturally chubby cheeks that sagged down (the width in her face then came from flesh, not bone) that prevented the new narrowness of her jaw to shine through. Then she had buccal fat removal, changed her eyebrows, one or two tweaks with botox and fillers and there you go, her current state. I hope for the love of everything that‘s holly that they don‘t go any further.

She still looks very pretty but I get you. She had chubby cheeks and so what? It was adorable on her and fits her well, same as her original nose, it worked on her. She could even lose their chubby cheeks over time when she gets older, well not anymore. But of course chubby cheeks doesn't fit their beauty standards even if you look good with them. I'm lowkey hoping for some miracle she got something else and not jaw shaving or if it's jaw shaving it's very little for the good of her. "I hope for the love of everything that‘s holly that they don‘t go any further" Me too, others will be excited for their comeback as I will be scared she gets something else done on every comeback.. and she's so young...

I shed a tear every time I watch one of her predebut videos. She looks so pretty here, why change it more?

It's okay, it's true lol she looks a bit uncanny valley with heavy make-up, she looks a lot better when she's wearing lighter make-up tho, still that sharp v-shape is there. I don't want to get into conspiracy but I wouldn't be surprised if they really tried to make her look like that because the avatar concept which is no morals but again I'd not be surprised, that or another chapter of when PS goes wrong or not as good as you expected

I think if they would just let her mature, she would naturaly became gorgeous with years (with maybe small fixes if they really needed to). She was a child and her cheeks were naturaly full, now they cut off her jaw and made her lower part of the cheeks disappear and added fillers on top part of cheeks to achieve this doll like look (+ all the other stuff of course). I hope for her, it doesn't ages too badly (but i doubt it).

When I see this, I can't think it wasn't a bit intentional, she looks like a doll/cyborg. Of course the make-up is playing a big role, both of them, Karina and Winter looks more natural with lighter make-up. But yeah I'm not ruling out it was kinda intentional, probably a mix of things, karina jaw not ending up as good as it should and it fitting their concept well lol

"She was a child": Yeah one of my biggest issues with comestic procedures on idols, they start with PS very young and they're not fully developed yet.

For now knetz seem to love Karina face so things aren't going bad with her actual face lol I mean she looks beautiful even with her actual jaw. SM has to be careful with Karina because she's one of the visuals of the group and they can't risk to mess up much with her face if they want to make money with her.

I like her with thick and a bit arched eyebrows (but not too much arched) too, I'm sure she'll wear them at some point of her career again. They like "experimenting" with karina make-up and hairstyles the most since their debut or she's the one who I notice the changes the most between the members at least, it's kinda amusing to see how she looks each time she tries a new hairstyle and make-up. She also liked to play with her eyebrows predebut so she'll try other looks in the future when she has a bit more freedom.

The thick, arched eyebrows give her a fierce/intimidating look and more personality to her face, I guess they wanted a softer look for her and fierce look for ningning. Since it's their debut probably they just wanted everything perfect including their looks so when they start changing a bit their concept it's possible they tone down the uncanny valley look with the group or I hope so.
