Can we say anything in the name of the freedom of speech?

I personally dont think you can talk/joke about anything... because in my opinion there are lines that should not be crossed. Some people joke about death, rape, victims of genocide, religion... and when they get called out on their bullshit, they screeeaaammmm "FREEDOM OF SPEECH". No baby, freedom of speech allows you to say whats on your mind but with respect towards others. Its not an opportunity to give up on your humanity...

Even on this forum, I read some crazy shit and I wonder how people can be so insensitive. Just because we´re on the internet doesnt make it less shocking. I personally believe you can make people get your point without being rude, you can bash someone without being heartless, you can even go off without soundind like a jerk. Words are powerful.

Your thoughts???

Yes.

But it has consequences, and people have to be aware of that.

Like you are free to yell fire in a theater, but your ass is going to get arrested and charged for it. That's not restricting freedom, that's the consequence of inducing panic with your words.

U can say anything under freedom of speech and I won't restrict u but if u are a civil/decent citizen then u will know that there's a time and place for everything. That's why it's ok for sites to ban u on the materials u are posting, on behalf of the general comfort level of the majority of the audience that the site is directed to. Also there are/will/should be consequences to some shit that people spout of, hence the threat laws, defamation laws, hate speech laws, etc.

Sometimes the stuff we say is indirectly (or maybe even directly) hurting our freedom of speech.

We can if it doesn't cause mass chaos. Also you can say something really offensive, but it is other people's freedom of speech to disagree with you.

So for example, can you say a distateful joke to a woman who just had a miscarriage? Not like she´s gonna get you arrested for that...

being charged for defamation of character  is a restriction to freedom of speech

At least the laws were created to regulate... imagine people going around spreading false rumours about you? That may not sound like a big deal but things like rape/pedophile accusations are very serious and can ruin someone´s life. Sometimes its true, sometimes its not... but there should be regulations anyway.

Example: Lovelyz Seo Jisoo case

yes, you can make a distasteful joke to a woman who's had a miscarriage.

freedom of speech means that you won't be arrested for making that joke i.e. the government is not going to restrict your right to make jokes.

but there are other consequences, and 'freedom of speech' isn't going to protect you from those consequences:-

a. if you are the woman's friend, and she ends the friendship, it doesn't mean that your rights have been infringed.

b. if other people are nearby and they call you an arsehole, it doesn't mean that your rights have been infringed.

c. if you are a comedian, and people boycott your shows and you go bankrupt, it doesn't mean that your rights have been infringed.

people need to be able to learn the difference between the right to say things without being arrested/tortured/deported and the right to say things without facing any consequences at all.

Makes sense! Maybe I should have said "Should we say... in the name of freedom of speech" because obviously we can but is that correct/ethical?

i think you misunderstood me, i'm not saying there's a problem with being charged for defamation of character. i was just mentioning it because in the op you said there should be some restrictions, that you shouldn't talk/joke about everything.....

People believe that freedom of speech means that you're free from the social consequences of your words. This is untrue; you can SAY whatever you feel like saying, but that doesn't mean you won't get ridiculed for it in some way or another.
