RACIST HOLLYWOOD? | Death Note Whitewashing

Hollywood's always been racist. Just look at the lack of Asian American actors/actresses in movies and the number of Oscars that's been awarded to people of color.

This is neither first time something like this has happened, nor will it be the last.

I wouldn't be surprised if this entire production lacked a single POC.

Some have argued that the character Light is white-passing. Right, because Tsugumi Ohba & Takeshi Obata had written and illustrated a Japanese manga, that takes place in Japan, with almost all the characters speaking Japanese...and they're totally white. Totally.

Unfortunately inaccurate racial casting is an issue that has plagued Death Note since the beginning, so it's not like this is new to fans of the series. The original contains several white and mixed race characters, but you'd never guess it from the casting choices of all the productions up until now. They don't even try to make the Asian actors look less Asian with make-up or anything, they just pretend the character was Asian the whole time because fuck diversity and fuck the creator's vision  :imstupid:

If they insist on casting all white people they could avoid all these issues if they just said the movie was an "inspired re-adaptation" and change the name of it. Just like "loosely based on the manga of (whatever the name of the manga is)".

I have not seen the video but are people seriously expecting Hollywood to cast asians as lead? They have done the same shit with every adaptation they have done, i.e Dragon Ball, upcoming Ghost in the shell cast Scarlett Johanson, whitewashed all the main characters in avatar last airbender, etc. It's not even exclusive to asian adaptations, they do it with everything.
