Benedict Cumberbatch does a good job a portraying an eccentric modern day Sherlock Holmes.

 

Robert Downing Jr, does a good job as portraying a classic Sherlock Holmes with a twist of humor.

 

Neither of the are the best overall though.

Queen Elizabeth II awarded Vasily Lyvanov with the title of the Memberof the Order of the British Empire for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in the Soviet version.

 

Even Western filmakers agree, that Soviet Union version of Sherlock is the best ever. 

Vasiliy Livanov's Sherlock is legendary.

 

 

But between those two, I'll pick Benedict Cucumberpatch, just because I love the BBC Sherlock more than Downey's movies.
