Reality Check: Africa

GirlCrush:Joy

Mehdi Hasan exposes the greatest misconceptions about the African continent.

Note: It would be wise to comprehend that yes, there are two sides to every coin (not in terms of alternatives rather the necessary acknowledgement of two sides if it is to be realised as a whole -coin). However, it's just that most of the time, when it comes to Africa it's always the tails end that faces up.

Every 60 seconds in Africa, a minute passes by. :har:

Overall so true. You can also see the shift within the African community too especially now that a lot of places are thriving economically. Whereas in the past it was all about emigrating to a western country like the US/UK people are choosing to stay and/or return after completing their studies.

That's what most of the people I know are doing and what my brother did and what I plan to do also. My brother is literally living it up back home getting paid big dollars whilst I'm over here dealing with rent, work and general life bs. If he had stayed here he would have struggled to find work after finishing uni.

As someone from the African continent I wish I could show this to people who look at me weird when I say I am a Nigerian. I mean it took me a while to convince someone that in fact Africa is a continent not a country. Also I came to the U.S. by plane, I have never seen a wild animal and there are beautiful places in Africa.

The next person that asks me "how did you learn English", "Do you know the best place to see wild animals", "why is Africa so poor"

So help me God...

the reason people will hold onto these is just plain ignorance and uninterest

if they really wanted to know what's up and didn't blindly just follow the media they would've known

but people be people especially us westerners hah
