YG ENTERTAINMENT’s main producer YANG HYUN SUK talked about the comeback of its boy group WINNER, who is now having a hiatus in Korea.

 

It has been more than a year since WINNER released a song in Korea. They are now focusing on the concert tours abroad. After releasing their debut album in August, they haven’t produced a new song yet. Of course, SONG MIN HO have recently appeared in “Show Me the Money 4†aired on a cable channel Mnet, but fans are looking forward to WINNER’s comeback.

 

In Saturday afternoon, after iKON’s debut concert “SHOWTIME,†Mr. Yang talked about WINNER’s new album.

He said that it is a “secret†when WINNER will make a comeback. “In the past, the fans of iKON were envious and disappointed when WINNER’s first album was released,†he said. “And now the situation is the opposite. I’m a producer. If iKON successfully makes their debut, I’m going to push WINNER to do better. The two groups are like brothers, and I will do everything I can to help both of them succeed. It’s not that I’m not favoring one group over the other.â€

 

“WINNER’s first album was quite successful, so we are aimed at creating something new that goes beyond their previous success. We already have a plan for promotion. So I want to make sure that there is no need for the fans to be worried. WINNER have their own strengths, and we are going to make the best of them.â€

 

“And in a very near future,†he added, “many of you will be surprised,†implying that WINNER’s comeback is imminent. In fact, Mr. Yang posted a photo on his Instagram account on Sep. 20^th, which seemed to indicate WINNER’s comeback. The photo had a caption saying “Miss them?†along with WINNER’s emblem. The boy group is expected to make a comeback and release a new album in the second half of this year.

His comments were distorted until it made it seem like he was saying Winner's debut was not as successful as iKON, but the comparison was never made.

 

I think YG is a horrible manager in terms of scheduling but I can't fault him in much beyond that.

I do think some things get lost in translation, but I still think YG has a tendency to put his foot in his mouth.  As far as the "constant media play", someone in another thread made a good point that sometimes he gives 1 interview and what he says is used as fodder for multiple articles for multiple media outlets.  So it's not really YG giving multiple interviews.  It's one interview being chopped up and re-posted with different angles over and over again by the media.

ngl it did seem fishy and unlikely for him to put down Winner's accomplishments. he's a dickbag and definitely does have favourites (regardless of his denials) but he's not that stupid. he's not going to cast Winner aside. after all, Winner has a pretty huge, established fanbase and was probably the most successful rookie group last year. it'd be just wrong for him to say that he needed to match up their status with iKON. 

 

i know ppl are going to be unhappy about the "quite" qualifier and i agree that this shows favouritism, but it also shows his irritating allergy towards complimenting his idols too much. he is harsh towards practically every single idol group under his management (except GD since he made the company where it is now) because he's a fucking asshole.

 

another quote that people will be unhappy with: "If iKON successfully makes their debut, I’m going to push WINNER to do better." he said this after saying that Winner succeeded. so what he means here is that he wants to push them to reach even greater heights than before. he's saying that he's not going to let Winner rot while iKON gets all the limelight.

 

i'm neither an Inner Circle nor an iKONIC, i like at least certain members from each group, and i hate YG's guts. but he's really not that much of an idiot, as much as it pains me to say it

Doesn't "quite" also mean "absolutely"?

 

The phrase "If iKON successfully makes their debut, I’m going to push WINNER to do better" sounds more like a reassurance to me than an insult to Winner. He didn't say "Because Ikon...", he said (as translated) "If Ikon..." reassuring fans that he won't allow Winner to not have their own success if ever Ikon will have theirs. It's low-key promoting competition between the 2 groups but in no way is it shading Winner...
