alanfea 767
J.Y. Park opened up about alleged sajaegi going on at the major agencies on the September 30th episode of JTBC's 'Newsroom'. If you remember, Yang Hyun Suk recently addressed reports of sajaegi, a banned practice that involves companies buying large amounts of albums or streaming music by its own artists in order to manipulate music chart rankings, on the same show. J.Y. Park commented, "The four major agencies (including SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment) don't have problems with sajaegi as far as I know."He added, "Album sajaegi is something that an individual or a celebrity himself can do, so the possibilities are open. You have to have a broad investigation because anyone from the composer, writer, and singer can do it." Allkpop

Kyrie 6,251
He added, "Album sajaegi is something that an individual or a celebrity himself can do, so the possibilities are open. You have to have a broad investigation because anyone from the composer, writer, and singer can do it." Allkpop If the artist is buying it themselves, it isn't sajaegi... Sajaegi is a company buy-back. The albums have their SKU numbers switched so that they can go back on sale. It's buying back albums and then reselling the same albums in order to create false numbers to inflate perceived popularity without having to manufacture new albums to sell. If an artist is buying 200 copies of his own album and not re-using them to sell again, that's not sajaegi, that's... self-support. It's the same as fans bulk-buying albums. They aren't going to do anything with more than one copy of the album, it's just a fan's tactic to get the numbers up.

kw_ 8,023
I expected major shady deets I think he knows a lot more than he's saying... remember this interview? "Park Jinyoung says that in Korea, there is this tendency for the people on top to change rules so that they would always remain on top. The same is applicable to the music business as well. He also says that it's highly discouraging for smaller companies because they can't grow due to such system. JYP says he tried filing a report about digital sales manipulation at the prosecutor's offices, but there was no reaction from them. Another point he is disappointed about is that there is no general system or body that would evaluate and record accomplishments in music (like Grammy in the US), because this kind of system would also give an impulse for the music industry to grow and develop." (summary source, interview source) JYP PD don't hide the truth~maybe big companies don't have issues with sajaegi in particular but obviously there's something~
