How long have you been a fan of Japanese music?

And when I say fan, I mean actually listening to it, not just vaguely knowing about it because of some anime or video game or whatever.

It's been at least 11 years for me, maybe 12? I started because I found a Japanese music section on a forum I was on. I already listened to music in several languages, so I just added Japanese to the list.

youtube and social media didn't exist yet so natch it was indirectly because of anime and video games like most nerds back then

Anyway, my Japanese teacher introduced music to me as a kid. It was pretty much instant love. 90s Japanese acts/songs still have a special place in my heart.

It all started when my older brothers introduced me to anime when I was like 5-7 years old, and after that I was hooked. Years later I had gotten my first Ipod(a shuffle), and I had asked one of my brothers to put some music on their, and it was nothing but jpop/indie/rock.

I've been listening to Japanese songs for like 18 years already because of Anime but only became a fan around 2000.

Around 2004 I guess ? Found Changin' My Life through the Full Moon wo Sagashite anime and got addicted to their stuff (Eternal Snow still one of my fave songs to this day) then spent years listening only to anisongs and casually downloading some albums, I think I only started exploring jpop more around late 2012/early 2013 heh.

Around 2004 probably because of Inuyasha and other animes. I liked Ayu a lot and I downloaded random jpop songs over the years. Even though I had a Kpop phase from 2006-2010ish,I fully got back into it in early 2011 :P it's been eleven years <3

8 or 9 years. I watched anime and used to download the op/eds to listen to casually. Then a couple of years later was when i started to go beyond that.

almost 10 years. It was at the start of 2006. Somehow I found jpopasia and thanks to that site I was able to find the new music that was coming out back then and look for their past releases. Namie, Ayumi and Mika Nakashima were my first finds as far I remember. After awhile  I fell behind with American pop and was listening mainly to Jpop/Jrock. After that I started watching anime so I got a little more interested in anisong singers and generally I found more artists thanks to openings. Now that I think about it, it's been a really long time. Almost 10 years... and people said it was just a phase haha

Some time I listen sometime I don't, there's periods when I listen to this and that.

Sometimes only Idols, sometime only anime music, sometimes to fanmade covers, sometimes to Vocaloid, sometimes to Utauloid, sometimes to bands, sometimes I listen only to one artist, and etc.

Yes, there is periods, when I attempting listening to music from other countries.

How did I started? The weeaboo part of me told me so.

Was it because of anime? Yes and no. At the end most of the artists that I know wasn't through anime (I actually getting surprised when some times song that I like is a song from anime), but anime opened the gate for me.

For how long? I don't want to think about it. I use to be 15 - 16 damn it.

I was kid and I remember seeing Inuyasha on adult swim.(I had trouble sleeping as a kid and I left the tv on at night) I remember hearing the ending theme My Will by Dream. Ever since I heard that I became a fan and found out about other groups/artists.

How did I become a fan:

I knew some Japanese songs due to anime since I was in elementary, but I never bothered researching about the artists. For me, it was because of Bleach that I started to follow some acts. I love the songs used in the anime, so I purchased the best compilation album. From there, I started following all the releases of Stereopony, Scandal, and UVERworld. Then, I discovered the idol world starting from KAT-TUN and AKB48.

I started to get into 7/8 years ago and basicaly listening to Anime opening/ending but most particolary videogames,but i really started to go beyond  and listen to more artists 3 years ago.
