Is there any way to avoid being raped?

I had a nightmare this morning. I was in a karaoke room alone then suddenly a guy came in smiling creepily and said sth that I don't remember but I just knew that he was going to do sth to me . I dreamed that I attacked him then quickly escaped.

But I don't know if I would be able to do that in real life. I'm a slow runner and I have slow reaction.

I know that Tokyo, the city that I live in, is one of the safest cities in the world, but rape can happen anywhere.

I'm always paranoid that I will be raped sometimes whenever I read the news

Also, in Tokyo, the police are not always in favor of foreigner victims (from the stories I've read so far)

I get scared whenever a stranger (who is a male) stares at me way too long

Could you guys give me some suggestions?

Seriously tho, I hate that some fucked up dude think they can do that to women

Its a shit the fact that girls must know how to avoid being raped.

But basically, do all the things that cut your freedom. Dont wear short clothes, dont go out at night alone, dont go to suspicious places. Dont drink, dont dance, dont upset a guy.

Basically, dont live.

Get a boyfriend or a gun

except your boyfriend can rape you too. in fact, it's been statistically proven that most rapes are done by people you know.

op, i've been raped before. everyone can learn self-defense and all sorts of shit, but most people in such situations just freeze, like i did. there's no method to get away from that, but your best option is taking self-defense classes.

it's a good idea to know some martial arts, have pepper spray, etc

but i don't think there is a "way" to avoid being raped :(

because rapists aren't only strangers who follow you in the darkness

or guys in clubs who put drugs in your drink

rapists can be guys you know personally (family, friends, acquaintances, classmates..)

exactly. just two days ago i was taking the bus when two "white good boy who gets away with everything" type of guys sat in front of me, and when i took off my earphones because the bus reached my destination, i heard the last bit of their conversation:

dude 1: "man, if you had a girlfriend she'd probably rape you all day loool"

dude 2: "the hell are you talking about? i'd rape her first"

so there. you don't have to be a street creeper to be a rapist.

Sadly, it's a thing women still have to worry over these days D:

I'd say avoid going outside alone at night, and if you must try to cover yourself, without very revealing clothes (and no makeup? the least attractive you look, the better, but that doesn't mean guys won't rape, during the war soldiers even raped grandmas and babies, anything they could land on...).

Also maybe take some self defense classes?

I have never experienced rape, but I take great precautions, try to go to places where there's a lot of people, it's safer.

i'm not trying to attack you, but what happened to me happened while i was in a hoodie and sweatpants, and my hair in a messy bun. what you're wearing doesn't really matter to them, it's only a better excuse to put the blame on you for being raped.

i hope u aware of the fact that anyone can rape u

sure. never said they can't. but changing "men" to "people" is basically dismissing the real issue here and the point of it. i mean, i'd write an essay right now about how rape is rooted in society as a part of masculinity and being a dominant male, but that's going off-topic.

the topic was on how to avoid getting raped and every gender is capable of rape

OT: bring pepperspray with you, or take a verbal and non self-defense class, i took one last year and it's been really useful
