Article: 'M! Countdown' reps, "iKON excluded from the charts? Because they haven't promoted on broadcast" [official statement]

Source: Sports Donga via Naver

1. [+5,659, -526] Then what about Busker Busker? They won #1 even without performing on stage??

2. [+4,437, -527] ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ This is ridiculous

3. [+4,311, -563] Shut up with the crap, Mnet

4. [+4,042, -635] Don't make up excuses... why are you doing this only to iKON;

5. [+3,532, -600] You still haven't told us why you excluded iKON!

6. [+708, -90] This is Mnet, they pick who they want to win and change their rules as they see fit

7. [+635, -108] Reach a settlement and put them in, how can you exclude a song that has been #1 for days now

8. [+596, -87] So what if the song's a pre-release? Does that somehow not make it a song??? This is ridiculous ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

9. [+567, -98] Okay, so which group is it that you want to hand the award to?

It makes sense to me if it's a pre-release Pre-debut... I mean, Seventeen had tons of tracks pre-debut too and none of them charted anywhere, because they were predebut. When they debut, they can sweep all the awards, don't worry knetz!

I will probably have the unpopular opinion in regards to this situation, but I honestly see this as being so unfair. I can name a handful of groups and solo artists who won on MCD without even performing or promoting the song, same as iKON and all of a sudden out of nowhere they're taken off? Come on now.

BigHit bought them out for this week and the next month. They'll be expending all of the money they have earned from Armys to buy their awards just so iKon wouldn't "demolish" them.

OMG.

This is blessing in disguise actually. I think winning #1 with the debut song will be more meaningful for them. I mean winning while they are on the stage. That moment. That feels.

Honestly this. Just imagine debuting and having ANOTHER award...

Mnet seems to change things whenever they feel like it. I'm not surprised by this excuse, but I can see why fans are upset by this.

Yeah and iirc, they changed it for 2ne1 last year as well. Idk if I got my story straight, but SNSD won with their comeback stage, while 2ne1 should've won with theirs as well, but Mnet changed the rules for groups to not be able to win with a comeback stage. Which was such bullsh*t!!

double standards. I don't know what Mnet's deal is, but it doesn't make sense that BB and Busker Busker can win with songs they weren't actively promoting, but Ikon can't.

Ikon are not 'predebut' either. Just because it was a warm-up single doesn't mean they haven't debuted, it was an official release.

Never understood why winning on these award show is such a big deal, isn't being no 1 on gaon more important?

Honestly, for my other favourite group, Big Bang, I couldn't care less. But iKON debuted like a week ago and this would have been a nice moment for the boys and a reward for the work of the fandom in supporting them.

But they'll have time to win all these awards in the future. No need to get greedy.
