Why do k-pop fans hate themselves?

I never see anyone with normal, healthy hobbies shaming their own hobby like I do k-pop fans. I always see them infer things like "kpop is terrible, kpop is low quality, kpop idols are poor performers" etc. the list goes on.

Why do you think this is?

It seems like a defense mechanism to me. Like, as long as I talk shit about k-pop, no one can make fun of me for being into it. I think it's rather cowardly. If you're into it, be into it. Don't be ashamed.

edit: I was referring to online interactions.

I actually defend. Someone tried to pull that ching chong shit on me while I was listening to SNSD. I swear I cursed that dumb bitch out so bad. ( I probably hurt her feelings  , but she deserved it for being ignorant) The ignorance of people these days.

a lot of people have mental problems and fears of being made fun of or stuff... so they usually hid it to not cause any problems/unlikable situations for themselves... it's 100% understandable...

Don't call them cowards.

Although for my case... Everyone in my school knows i love kpop and i don't even try hiding it...(i even got a hyuna t-shirt & cap as a gift from my classmates on my birthday LMAO  :derp:)

For me, I don't really hide my love of kpop but I also don't really talk about it with other people. I mean, my family and my roommates and some of my friends know I like it but that's about it. They tend to tease me a bit (not anything mean though) about it lol.

Except this is online... Completely different from the outside world

Lord I see that too fucking often on Twitter. It's so embarrassing. Mostly 1D stans. Mess.

I don't want to tell people about kpop because maybe they'll find out who Red Velvet is and then they'll fall in love with Wendy. I don't want that :omg: Not taking any risks.

LMAO !!

Guess this is why peple are always bashing on RV-stans.

I've been saying this all along, some people come on a kpop forum, bash kpop/idols and in general hate it, yet they keep going back for more by checking new groups and songs. What gives lol?

I guess the saying about hating something soo much is no different than love is true

Disagree.

Sports fans shame their favorite teams all the time. Lord knows I can't root for a winning team/individual to save my life. But I have never considered changing teams.

I make fun of my grandma hobbies of knitting, sewing and canning; but not on here because it's not relevant. (there is a whole website debited to connecting knitters and crocheters called ravelry. most people on there have a really good sense of humor about having a traditional hobby that is viewed as niche, so it does happen online, just in a specific place)

Not trying to shame anyone but the girl/guy with the Justin Beiber sig/dp, I always see them bashing kpop. I don't understand why you would waste your time on a forum like this if you hate it.

i said this before and i feel like it's very applicable here

"dont be like some of the folks in the bashing thread who're obviously over kpop but still clinging to it for god knows what reason."

it doesn't make sense to continue being engaged in a field you clearly dislike...or at least dislike more than like
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It really depends where you live. If you live in Asia where K-Pop is absolutely huge then I don't see people would be doing this, it's probably the other way around that if you don't like K-Pop you ain't cool. But in western countries where people may see music as something the artists create/write themselves, like bands, to be proper music; I can see that they may feel the need to defend K-Pop, which we must agree that can sometimes only be about catchy beats & dances, by playing it down.

You may have a point with sports fans, although what I've seen feels more like tough love than bashing. At the end of the day they still unashamedly love sports.

Having a sense of humor about knitting isn't the same either.

Certain k-pop fans just act so discontent, so unamused, and they aren't really joking, just probably not being honest about how much they enjoy it.
