What do you think of people that refuse to get financial aid for school and other stuff because of pride?

No offense but your op is just a mess...

If you are going to university and still using terms like "first/second/third world countries" with the intention of referencing a country's economic status/development, you need to consider switching universities.

I wouldn't really understand that decision. Might build character or give some kind of satisfaction to work hard to entirely pay your own way through school (as some people indeed have to do), but sometimes it's nice to throw away your pride for your own sanity. I'm attending on scholarship, and I'm glad I don't have the pressure or anxiety of debt over my head. That feeling is priceless.

If you live in the U.S or any first world country, then you will pay sales, income, and other misc. taxes. Wouldn't getting financial aid from school and what not be like getting a return on your "investment"?

it's not a return on your investment though? Financial aid is given to help those who cannot afford to go to uni and in some way to convince you to choose the university (the higher than financial aid being received, the more willing you are to go to one uni over the other).

Regardless idk anyone who would refuse financial aid over pride  :wth:

What's wrong with using terms like first/second/third world countries? Isn't it just a term that's based on the amount of development a country has?

These are terms that date from the Cold War. The First World were the countries aligned with NATO (U.S. and allies), the Second World was composed of the countries aligned with the Eastern Bloc (Soviet Union and allies) while the Third World were countries not aligned with either NATO or the Eastern Bloc.

It is extremely negligent to use terms which were models of the geopolitical sphere during the Cold War, to refer to the economic development of countries. Also, these terms are obsolete considering the Cold War ended over 20 years ago.

But don't these terms have different meanings now? Nowadays, I don't see those terms being used in that manner. For example, we use those terms in my Geography class but only to describe countries that have differing levels of development. But hey, you learn something new every day.

Refusing financial aid due to pride is ridiculous. Getting a higher education is incredibly expensive, especially when you're not a 4.0 student. There's no shame in getting assistance. They should consider it an investment - accept the grants/scholarships now, so you can donate to scholarships/charities later.
