  1. 1. Are you for or against a future of only Digital Media?

    • Against... I love having my games physically **snuggles with games**
    • For, it's just so much more convenient and easy. Too lazy to go out and buy my games.
    • Meh, It's inevitable... I'm neither for nor against. Just keep the games coming.

GAMING

Digital Media Future, is it coming?

Imagine a world, where gaming stores are only stocked with gaming related toys, vouchers,

gift cards and store credits. The shelves are no longer lined with games and the only way to buy

your games is to purchase online store credit to buy your games digitally. Well, you may not have

to imagine for much longer because experts in the Industry are talking about a future where

Physical Content / Media no longer exists!

Recently, Robbie Bach who is the Former Microsoft President came out and talked a little

about his views and thoughts on the future of Consoles and Physical Media, he said:

``Does it have a physical media? Probably not, so how does that look? Is it just a game

box or is it more? What's the balance between what an Apple TV is and what an XBox

or a PlayStation 4 is? These are really interesting questions, and the teams are going to

have to wrestle with those. That next generation will be a while new game," said Bach.``

Now what does this all mean? Well basically Bach is commenting on the `next generation` of consoles

and what we should be expecting from them. XBox One as well as the PlayStation 4 has tried to make

their consoles, THE Entertainment box for all homes by integrating services like Netflix, YouTube and

such onto their consoles. All of these services? Digital Media. Recently there has been an increase in

digitally bought games as well, with a lot more people choosing to buy their games digitally rather than

physically. There has even been some games that are released Exclusively digitally. So are companies

trying to push the digital media future? Or do they just see what's coming and jumping on the band-

-wagon before it actually happens?

To use another example. The DVD / Blu-Ray market. Recently The Simpsons has announced that they

will NO LONGER release their seasons on DVD / Blu-Ray as they simply weren't selling. Instead now

you can stream all their seasons / episodes online at the official website. Another popular TV show,

Modern Family has recently canceled all Blu-Ray productions, they are still however releasing their

seasons on DVD. While this doesn't exactly correlate with the world of gaming, this is just bit of proof

that we heading into the digital age. How long it'll be though before all we see is digital media and

Physical media becomes a thing of the past? Only time can tell.

Anyways the question I have for you all is, are you in or against the thought

of physical media being pushed aside for Digital Media? Or do you just not care?

Comment below and thank you for reading!

Ew no... fuck that shit.
I like collecting games physically :( They're pretty to look at.
And I live in AUSTRALIA. Do you know how shitty and slow our internet is???
Downloading games can take hours upon hours... even days. So yeah... for me a future of
Digital Media ONLY, COULD potentially turn me off from gaming all together to be honest...

It's not gonna happen because there are a lot of places where the internet is either too slow to handle downloading entire games or is metered so would limit people's ability to download games.

It's gonna happen eventually, but not for a very very long time.

Mte. I rarely buy a digital version of a game. Usually only when there's no other choice. I prefer collecting the physical copies. Eventually you would need more storage space on your console, too.

My internet is fine, though, so that's not an issue if it comes down to it in the future.

Something special about being able to actually hold a game idk. Other than that I don't have a whole lot against full digital. It sure makes switching between games quicker and easier and it's less to keep track of. I'm not necessarily in favor of full digital, it definitely has it's cons (looking at you, instantly filled 500Gb hard drive). But if it happens, it's nothing that could turn me away from gaming. But I also live in the US so while these games are giant, download time isn't a huge issue. I can just do it while I'm out at class or something. If I had to choose between a digital and physical copy, I would probably choose physical tbh. That way I could share it with my friends too if I feel like they absolutely need to play it.

Not happening with the internet speed in my place. Plus I love my physical collection.

And the next console should be 3TB with the way they're pushing graphics

Yep, physical collection >>>>>>> digital copies.

You know what I miss? Booklets coming with the physical copies...

They seemed to have... quietly disappeared :( Not feeling that tbh....

I dunno. I really don't like the idea of having to download an entire game.

And I also don't like the idea of having to buy space to store those games.

Exactly ~ <3

Yeah... that's true. But the thing is, the DVD market is kinda dying, and regarding TV Series,

they're basically ONLY available via digital streaming... and if not, it will be in the VERY NEAR future.

However I do acknowledge that it's a different market, so comparing the two isn't accurate.

Yep... and even then, if a game is digital only, while I am interested... the thought of not having

a copy of it physically is really off-putting. I have admittedly skipped on a few games because

they're only available digitally.. T_T

Maybe I could tolerate downloading games when Australian internet isn't as slow as shit.

The only reason I buy a digital copy of a game is if I'm to impatient to get it the next day, like dark souls 2.

Gurl really....? A day. You remind me of my friends, LMFAO. (He plays Dark Souls too).

I would wait a month..... if it means getting the game physically.. I don't really care tbh.

ew pls i hope not. 1st things first, I've noticed that physical copies tend to be cheaper than buying digitally on the console. Like the game would still be full price on the console but I could get it off of Amazon for about $10-20 cheaper or so. Also I like collecting all my games and putting it in my bookshelf. It just looks nice :3

I don't know how people have the patience to wait, especially a month, I'd die.

Internet speed isn't too much of an issue, at least for me. However I still prefer physical over digital. There are only a few reasons I will buy digital.

1- The game is available only in digital format.

2- If there was a sale, and the game was cheaper than buying in the physical format.

Aside from that, I buy most of my games in physical format. I prefer it because, at least you won't have the fear of accidentally losing the game, through errors or deleting it from your hard-drive. And I do like to share games with family and friends.

I am against it.

I just hate spending money on anything in digital format whether it is games, music, computer programs it just feel like I don't get my money's worth since it is in digital format. Also when I buy digital stuff I always think why did I spend money on this I could just downloaded it for free from some torrent site.

but anyway times are changing and I think I better get use to this thing since it will only become more and more common.

You are talking to a PS4 fanboy... who is a fan of Tomb Raider.

I will have to wait for an entire year for that shit... if even that.

i don't even like purchasing extra downloadable content let alone an entire digital game

omg.gif

EXACTLY. Either come with the game in a Definitive Edition

or go home. I'm not here for Digital DLC, #Bye.

You made a good point. Also what would happen if let's say your Internet goes out

for a day or two or whatever. What then? Digital Media has a lot of problems.

Don't format my posts to the center. Leave it alone. Rude ass.

Except this is my thread and all comments automatically belongs to me, so....

Some games I will buy even if they're only available in digital format. I have the collector's edition of Journey, but even if that was sold out and I could only get the digital version, it's amazing enough that I wouldn't miss out on it. It depends on how much I want to play the game, I guess.

Also I've noticed that some games come with a download code instead of a disc. I hate that.

LOL I'm one of those impatient people. I couldn't be bothered to wait the next day for Hyrule Warriors to arrive so I bought the digital version instead. I regretted it after a while, though. Especially since it's taking up space in my Wii U when it didn't need to.

I'm against all digital consoles, I'm actually going all digital myself, or..well 90% digital, it's very convenient, but there are still a lot of problems that make me think it's too soon, a lack of refunds on consoles, companies being able to remove games from their stores whenever they want and there being no other way to buy it, look at Marvel vs Capcom 2 and 3, the licence to use the marvel characters ran out and now there's no way to buy it on PSN, if it was digital only it would've been completely inaccessible, or better yet P.T., not only was it taken from PSN, but if you uninstall it, there is no way to reinstall it.

And yeah, there are still places with shit internet, and that wouldn't really benefit them.
