What do you think of idols being put into groups to become actors?

In other words, those who wanted to be actors but are put into an idol group so that their acting career would be more successful?

Do you like it or hate it?

Tbh, I don't like that at all. If you have no passion for music at all, you shouldn't debut and call yourself a singer.

If they are actually talented and offer something to the group (e.g. good vocals) and continue to work hard, then it shouldn't really matter. It's just so annoying when a member who is so limited and near on useless is in a group because you can clearly tell they were just added for their visuals alone and/or to try acting. Especially those who offer nothing and half ass everything.

But then again as I've come to learn and accept; idols are not about singers or talent, but rather entertainment and visuals.

It's only okay if they have interest in music and especially singing/dancing

If not, it's kinda dumb and their overall performances are gonna show to the audiences and viewers so they will drag the whole group down

I think rookie actors have more of a chance of getting gigs with decent pay if they become idols first so its a smart plan.  It increases the liklihood of your success.

This

There are literally dozens of middle aged Korean actors and actresses today who started off as a singer, rapper or idol. One of my favorite Korean actors, Jang Hyuk made his debut as rapper, going by the name TJ.

If an idol has the talent to become a good actor/actress, he/she can use that popularity and transition to a full time actor/actress later in his/her career. All idol groups will disband one day, idols who are over 30 are in the minority and they'll probably look for another job in the entertainment industry. A lot of the Super Junior members have been working as MC's on variety programs for years as an example.

Making fun of idol actors became a meme. Probably because some idols are truly terrible actors and the only reason they were casted in a drama was purely to boost viewers or publicity.

If they really have no passion for singing or dancing at all, then yes maybe its not good.

But in the end, its not their fault. Maybe their agency put them to an idol group not only for their acting career, but to boost the group's popularity as well.

Its very exhausting to be an idol actors, bcuz its like doing 2 jobs at the same time. And even worse, at first (maybe until 3-5 years since debut), idol actors have to share their income with other members in the group, remember? So I think its not always for their benefit
