Team SeSeSe "Shall We Dance"

From last week I was really worried for Boa this round when the preview showed Lee Michelle with Team Hi-Lite. But in the end she not only got through but was voted #2 from the all contestants for this round! She chose Reddy as her producer for the finals so it's a sorta reunion from their "Entourage" release a couple of months ago.

Team SeSeSe's performance was lit! I'm so proud of Boa. She has shown a lot of growth and I'm glad she is having fun.

I'm not super pleased with her choice. Not that I think Reddy is bad or anything I just think there were better producers to choose.

Hey I just thought of something (and I was going to make a topic about it but no one will care so I didn't bother).

Boa has written/composed more songs for other artists than LE, Cheetah, and Yezi combined, yet she is the contestant and they are the producers. However in total LE has written more songs than Boa because LE writes pretty much every EXID song and they have more discography than SPICA, but as far as who has written the most songs for OTHER artists, Boa is #1. She has written/composed more songs for other artists than ANY female idol (even Miryo who has written 80+ songs total but the vast majority BEG songs). Let that sink in.

Talk about being underrated huh? She is more experienced than many of the producers on Hip Hop Nation.

I was a little surprised that no one picked any of Team Hot Chicks until the end but as I thought about it it shouldn't have. Cheetah as a producer (I'm not sure how involved LE and Yezi were) seemed like she centers everything around her and the contestants were backup performers. To me it was a problem a lot of the producers have to some extent. I have been most impressed with Team Brand New and specifically P-Type as he at least spreads his focus around to the whole team rather then just focusing on his most talented members. So if I had to pick for Boa it probably would be either P-Type or Minos from Brand New or DinDin from SeSeSe (although Jooheon might be good too seeing as how Michelle picked him).

Boa (and SPICA in general) is going to end up being one of those talents that gets fully appreciated after they are gone from the spotlight. Like how people talk so nicely about talented groups that have disbanded rather then appreciating them while they were around.

The best thing about Hip Hop Nation for me is just hearing people cheering loudly for Boa. I had given up any hope of Korea showing any signs appreciation for her but now I see a glimmer of hope.

Some of the producers on the show are pretty big none are huge superstars so understandably they're going to be trying to promote themselves. I agree with team Brand New, but I do understand why she picked Reddy. She has already worked with him before so they understand each other musically, also Reddy is probably the producer closest to her age (I think he is 86 liner).

I thought the same as to why Boa chose Reddy. As for the producers promoting themselves, I agree that it's understandable but it's also understandable why then the contestants wouldn't pick them first. A lot of the comments on the YT vid for the selection automatically assumed it was a sexist thing that no one was picking any of the Hot Chicks. But MC Sniper was with them too and he did the same thing as far as his performances. But thinking as a contestant, I wouldn't have picked them either because I would want someone that would help ME put on a better performance, That's where P-Type and Din Din were best and why they were chosen early. I haven't been overly impressed with Palo Alto and Team Hi-Lite in this show (they aren't bad but they haven't been putting on outstanding performances, and I prefer their style of rap) but I get they have the rep so they get the respect from the contestants.

As for SPICA , I really thought CJ was going to promote them as a sorta crossover vocalist/idol group considering most of the artist signed with them are vocalists. But they've kept them on the straight idol route and barely promoting them at all. 2016 was great for Bohyung, and it's been pretty good for Boa lately, but there's barely any group stuff and even that is still the same idol type bookings.

I am once again super late, but I finally got around to watching ep 12 of Hip HHop Tribe. I squeeled when Boa came in 2nd. It's so good to see her appreciated! :D I was a little disappointed at her choice. Since she did the whole "Betrayal" speech thing when Lee Michelle left their team, but in the end she goes somewhere else too? :/ And yeah, I'm also not too fond of Reddy's rap, but I suppose that's just up to personal taste. I guess we'll jsut have to see what comes out of it.

I was very upset to see all the members of Hot Chicks remain untill the end. While I am a big fan of Yezi & LE, I guess I -could- see why they were not picked, but... Cheetah? Really :/ This just makes me think nobody picked them because they are female or sth... I mean, their team did really well during the entire show so far imo.

Boa isn't the malicious type, so I don't think her comments were meant for Michelle (Boa genuinely seems to like her) but were probably something she said about her situation. I don't trust the editing (though it's nowhere near as bad as MBC shows), like how they show Michelle's reaction during Boa's performance when Michelle wasn't even in the audience, she was backstage with Hi-Lite preparing to go on next.

I don't see her choice of Reddy as a "betrayal" per se because this selection process was part of the show. I mean it kinda is one, but not a major one. But I understand her choice after watching the subbed version. SeSeSe doesn't see Boa as having the potential to win, so they treat her as a extra, not badly because they obviously respect her singing, but not as a serious rap contender. They never would've talked about not worrying about being eliminated if Michelle was still there, but they did when it was just Boa left. You could think they did it to ease the pressure on Boa but DinDin even gave Cheetah the impression they weren't going to be that good. So Boa needed to get away from them and try it somewhere else and since she had some experience with Reddy I think she felt safe with that choice.

I agree that Hot Chicks" gave some great performances but like I said earlier Cheetah pretty much took the whole spotlight when she was on stage. Gi-Yong is one of the top rappers among the contestants and yet his worst performances are when he performs with Hot Chicks producers. He got ranked 8th out of the remaining 10 contestants. At least MC Sniper shares the stage with strong contestants like he did Kwang Sun.

It's pretty much Reddy (featuring Boa) and it's mostly singing on both their parts. I'm an R&B fan almost to a fault but this performance didn't interest me all that much. Boa did good but that could be because she's singing most of the time. I know rappers get sort of a pass when they sing but Reddy sang so much that it ruined it. Also it seems like they got overly fixated on the hook (it happened a lot on this show) and that kinda dragged it for me. But in the end it has been great seeing Boa do this show and I really hope she keeps developing her rap style.

There's a good chance that they have finally begun CB preparations.

Boa got eliminated and 'Cigarette Girl' is ending early so they actually have time.

So what do you all think of Jiwon's hair cut? Yay or nay?

I hope they are coming back soon and don't get delayed until the summer rush when everybody else comes back. CJ has a lot of artists and they don't seem to be constantly promoting them so it really gets backed up and SPICA seems to get lost and forgotten in the shuffle.

Jiwon looks good! I prefer her with long hair and no bangs but she looks good in just about any hairstyle. I was hoping Boa would keep her extensions but she looks good too. Hopefully SPICA's stylist doesn't try another risky maneuver with any of them like they did to Sihyun last time.

Thanks to Narae for the explanation! I hesitated posting anything about the disbandment here because it didn't add up to me. First, if it was an official disbandment the girls would've post goodbye to Mercuries, that I have no doubt about. Second, CJ didn't clarify what was happening. I saw people posting that they had 2 more years left on their contract but asked to be released from it. But if that were the case why the rush to make an announcement about it until the whole picture was clearer. And last were the "reports" of SPICA clearing out their dorm when in fact they haven't lived in a dorm together since the end of "YDLM" promotions in early 2014.

I know it will be hard for them to regroup in the future, especially considering their ages and lack of fanbase, but at least there's a glimmer of hope. And most importantly at least they still consider themselves SPICA, meaning no bad breakup.

As for the future, Bohyung should have no problem getting signed by an agency. In fact I would be surprised if CJ let her go. Boa, Narae, and Jiwon  should have prospects to but for varying reasons. But I worry the most for Sihyun. Her age and lack of a strong talent and most importantly lack of success, will make it hard for her. I hope they all get to do what they want.

p.s. I think that long hiatus and the endless delays is really what led to this. Jiwon had bought it up before, and Narae said it on her radio show, that having to put their individual activities in hold for so long because of the promise of SPICA comebacks only to be left sitting at home, killed their trust in their agencies (B2M and CJ E&M).

I'll keep an ear out to find out what's going on with them in the future but as far as following kpop it ends here for me.

p.p.s. I'm gonna miss this thread, and the fellow SPICA fans here.

Just thought I'd post Bbo's OST for Hitmaker: Cross Country. When I heard the teaser I thought I wouldn't like the song but when I listened to this full version I loved it.

Does anyone know if there are eng subs for the show yet? I know about the raws on Dailymotion, but that's about it.

I rarely check in on OH nowadays but I'll keep posting any performances by SPICA members as they come up.

Has anyone heard if any of them has signed on to a new agency yet? Kinda weird if none of them have. I just read that Lee Hyori signed up with Kiwi Media Group for her upcoming comeback which means she has finally cut any ties with B2M. Funny thing is Kiwi Media is where producer Kim Hyung Suk is, and Bbo has done a lot of work for him, the latest being the two songs for "Unnies Slam Dunk" which Bbo did the demos for. But then again maybe it was Hyori who introduced Bbo to him years ago in the first place. Even though it's a slim chance, I'm hoping Kiwi considers signing SPICA as a whole.

Dear Mercury

I'm leaving OH. Whoever wants to replace me as OP can have it.

If you're leaving right away and no one else wants to do it, I will. Just let me know what I have to do.

If anyone else wants to do it, please do. I'm not really a fan of kpop, SPICA was the only group I ever really followed and it was through them that I got my kpop news. Since they aren't very active nowadays I barely have any kpop exposure and I only check in on OH maybe once a week at the most lately. So if there's someone who has even the remotest level of interest, I'm sure you'll do much better then me.

Bbo will be performing solo in Malaysia, I think it's at an awards show.

Bbo posted a few short vids including this one. The interesting thing here is this is a CJ E&M practice room (that's the butterfly trail from their company logo on the wall). Not sure if she signed with them again or is just using the studio. I did say I would be surprised if CJ let her go.

Bbo will be performing with Hyunmin-A.  I tried looking up info on him but there isn't much, at least in English. He's from Malaysia and became an idol in Korea. It is sorta of a "thing" that a kpop artist is performing in Malasia again as there was some trouble a couple years back and kpop artist stopped going over there. So there's chatter on twitter from people hoping this goes well so more kpop acts follow.

Okay... But in that case it would have been even shittier for them to release "Spica disbandment" news without the members knowing...

I don't know if it makes it worse to me on how CJ E&M, B2M, and even the media treated SPICA as they always seemed to get their information wrong. CJ never seems directly involved with their artists so it was more surprising that they even said anything at all (B2M seems to be the one issuing statements for all CJ artists lately).

I know, she said the same thing on Girl Spirit when she wasn't getting 1st place. They put a lot on her shoulders, especially Boa and Bohyung, and it breaks my heart.

Well Boa was the only one missing for a long time. Jiwon is doing her musical, Bohyung is the most active with all her international gigs, Sihyun's been getting modelling jobs like crazy, and Narae is blogging. I'm sure Boa's in her cave doing music but its been a while since she's shown her face.

Do you know if Narae is still doing the radio show? Spica_Tweets would post up about it every so often but I haven't seen anything in a long time.

Some interesting and funny things I've seen lately...

A lot of people are still under the impression that SPICA disbanded. Not just the whole hiatus and not being signed to company part, but flat out disbanded. It always amazes me how incorrect news can travel to every nook and cranny of the universe but the correct info gets lost in the wind.

There was a  thread on Twitter asking who had the better vocal line, TTS or SPICA. One person made the argument that Tiffany alone was better then all of them and 2 out of the 3 reasons they gave for Tiffany were the K2 OST and the Unnies Slam Dunk Season 2 Demo tracks, both by Bbo. LOL. I keep seeing Tiffany fans trying to say Bohyung's voice sounds like Tiffany......I'm not hearing it at all.

The Unnies Slam Dunk songs released and Bbo's demo are playing throughout in the background, they are basically singing over them. Funny how people who say they don't like SPICA's singing, love their work without knowing it.

Flowsik started posting old YT vids on his channel and one of them was Can't Sleep w/ Bbo. Now there are posts on how Minzy must have helped them meet. On a similar note, in an interview, Minzy said it was Bbo's performance on Girl Spirit that gave her the idea to collab with Flowsik.

I'm tired of other people getting way more money and credit for SPICA's hard work than they do. In my opinion, they should just start their own company, a la Jay Park and AOMG. They can write/compose for other artists/groups, and maximize their profits, and save their best music for SPICA and their solo music and be in full control of their fate/destiny rather than having company after company fail them. I know its easier said than done though.

MTE

I want a cover from them now just so people can see that they are still together and can produce music even without being in a company. Boa and Eric did their cover all on their own so it should be doable. Also it would settle the issue on whether they can still use the SPICA name.

I've really grown tired of kpop lately which is why I hardly even bother with it anymore. SPICA being out of it is a big reason, but just the whole superficiality of it has gotten out of hand. Like the Unnies thing is a good example. Fans are going crazy over it, which is fine because it is a good song. But reading and seeing all these comments about how hard they worked and how great they sound is kinda going overboard. I get that not all of them are professional singers but at least 3 of them are. Bohyung had maybe a day or two to not only learn the lyrics but also interpret the entire song and then record it. All the Unnies had to do was listen to her demo and basically copy the parts that they'll be singing, yet fans are so impressed by that. Even after all that they still didn't sound as good as Bbo alone and even had to use her demo throughout the song. And still she never even got mentioned on the show. I mean I kinda get that's what a demo is, but since they ended up using so much of it in the final product and their performances, she should have at least been mentioned on Unnies Slam Dunk since they bought in everyone else involved and even had them in the MV.

Speaking of Flowsik did anybody catch his IG Live? He exposed SMTM, k-hiphop, and korean rappers amgplz.png

I saw the tail, end of it when he was responding to haters already, but I didn't see what he said originally (and I honestly don't think most people did). From what I gathered it got blown out of proportion (eh kpop...) and YG stans were the ones who took the most offence by far.

Bbo for Vivlas Summer Lipstick:

Good to see Bbo staying busy. I'm guessing she signed with an agency and it might even be that she stayed with CJ E&M since she was practicing there for her Malaysia trip.

If Bohyung is still with CJ E&M they need to actually release her music. I'm happy that she is busy but she is too good for only commercials and reality shows.

If CJ is doing the same thing they did last year they pretty much none of their artists will promote during Produce 101. Then they rushed through Davichi, Eric Nam, and SPICA in like 2 months. But that's only if Bbo is still with them. I'm actually hoping not because they don't seem to promote very often and they have a pretty large amount of artist so Bbo could get buried. It would really be amazing if she's doing all this on her own.

Ok, so this might not be the case but I was looking through Boa IG posts and one from last week says to look out for an Urban Zakapa release (in Korean of course) and saw posts saying she's in it (those were in English). Considering none of the regular SPICA posters on Twitter said anything I thought it couldn't be. But after watching this live performance, I'm thinking that it might be her doing background vocals. Might just be my biased/hopeful ears.,,,,

[Video] 170605 DJ Show Triangle Episode 2 (DJ Apache & Kim Boa)

^Boa singing Adele's "Skyfall"!

God, I miss her voice.

Nothing to do with Boa but I wish the beat change would have come sooner though, the performance kinda dragged in the middle. Would've really hit the mark if they rearranged the latter part of the song into a rock type beat and let Boa do the transition then had the dancers come in. I'm still waiting for Boa do a "Pink" style rock song.

Whoever is managing Bbo now is doing a pretty good job. She isn't blowing up, but she is staying gamefully employed and is busier now then before. I hope there are plans for a solo album release.

God, I hope there's something in the works for Boa. Singing show, song release, .....something.
