Does anyone know if the group itself or if some of the members do OSTs? I think that might be a decent way to get some more exposure. It's not the most exciting material to sing, but I could see it going over well with netz.

 

 

As a group they've done quite few but it's been awhile, over a year or so ago. But individually, everyone except Sihyun has done at least one. Bohyung's was the most recent as she did 2 (could be considered as 3 since she did an English and Korean version of one song) within a month of each other earlier this year. One of them was for "The Royal Gambler/Jackpot" drama which was huge, but they only used her song a couple of times but she got good reactions for it.

I don't know what I love more, all the activity in this thread or the fact that when I run a SPICA search on YT and on Twitter I don't have to scroll past a hundred Japanese anime posts!

Actually the Allkpop forums isn't bad at all for SPICA, couple of mods are even big time fans. I kinda post SPICA stuff there semi-regularly and very rarely even get rude comments in my threads. It's the Allkpop articles that are a cesspool for comments.

I beginning to understand that half the fanbase like SPICA's r&b style while the other prefers their western pop style. Its going to be difficult to find something that will satisfy both sides. I guess that's the problem with switching up genres too much. Personally that's what I like that about them but that doesn't usually work out too well in kpop.

 

This exactly true! It also points to the hypocrisy in kpop fans. People are always criticizing kpop for it's lack of originality and diversity. Groups are constantly getting slammed for sticking to a certain concept or image. Yet SPICA from the start said they wanted to be a "chameleon" group that could take on a variety of styles and concepts, and they've done just that. But people (a lot of them their own fans) criticize them for it, and they do it with every single release. In the end SPICA will never please all of their fans with any song. But this time they even tried to appease their R&B fans with One Way as a b-side, but that still didn't stop those fans from criticizing Secret Time.

 

The only two SPICA songs I have ever been overly critical with (and even then my criticism was to stay silent) were Lonely and SPICA.S' Give Your Love. But it wasn't because those songs were bad, it was just that those concepts were so over done at the point SPICA did them that they lacked any originality.

 

This is why SPICA needs to do multiple comebacks in a row for one  full album, like SNSD did a couple years ago. That way they can cover a variety of concepts and styles all in one shot.

 My least favorite SPICA songs were 'I'll Be There' and 'Give Your Love' but they weren't bad songs. I actually like them a lot more now than I did back then. Like Sihyun said, there isn't a bad SPICA song.

 

 

 

 

If I had been a SPICA fan from their debut I probably would've hated I'll Be There since it was such a 180 from their R&B trifecta of Doggedly, Russian Roulette, and Painkiller. But IBT was the first SPICA song I ever heard and even though I don't like bubble gum style songs, I liked it (but it was Painkiller that not only made me a SPICA fan but a kpop fan). I remember seeing the IBT mv and thinking Boa and Bohyung looked so cool. Who knew was a dork and the other a mute. lol  I also thought Narae and Jiwon were the same person so I kept wondering how there were five of them in the group shots.

I totally forgot about Girl Spirit today, ends up Bbo's group wasn't even performing. Since they've gone back to the 100 music students and one team a week, I'm pretty sure Bohyung's out of the finals. With her 3rd place finish and the 400 voters for the military concert, that pretty much put her too far behind in points no matter how well she does in the final two performances.

Yup, they did. Not the whole mv though, just about a minute of it.

 

Yeah that military episode made so sense. They went through all that trouble to make the competition as fair as possible with the music students, then it one episode they threw all that out the window. They billed that episode as a chance for the underdogs to turn things around when in reality it just solidified the standings of the leaders and decided the finalists.

Speaking of which I'm a little disappointed that a digital booklet wasn't included with this single. We got so many gorgeous teaser photos this comeback ^^

 

 

 

 

I'm hoping the physical single from the Mwave store is like the one that they gave to Eric Nam when he did the v-live show with them. That one had a photo book included.

 

I'm also still hoping one day the Ghost promo physical is released to the public. That is one I really want.

Narae is the "real" maknae in SPICA, so she gets teased as much as she teases others. Her and Jiwon have a sibling type relationship probably because they are the same age and lived together for so long. Like in the Get Lucky video, when Narae makes her spiderman entrance, Jiwon is shaking her head and rolling her eyes. lol. I used to misunderstand Jiwon early on, I thought she was kinda bitchy. But it just looks that way if you just see snippets of her and Narae.

Ok, that was cute. Bbo's little crouch into retreat was adorable and shows even the best mess up sometimes.

 

 

Idk, there is something about Jiwon that makes me feel suspicious, but perhaps it's just me overanalyzing and overreacting.

 

 

Actually Jiwon would be the easiest to tell if she was lipsyncing because she misses her marks so often. Like in the vid when Narae's voice cracks at the radio show during YDLM, Jiwon was so busy laughing at it that she missed her line. She also spaced out during the only live performance of Ghost and missed her start. She does have a lot of background vocal though, usually echoes, but it's obvious when she doesn't sing because without her live voice it doesn't sound right.

I'M SO HAPPY FOR HER. DOES THIS MEAN SHE HAS A REALISTIC CHANCE AT GETTING INTO THE FINALS AGAIN?

 

 

It's so hard to tell with that show because we don't know the second round scores from any episode and they haven't been exactly clear how the scoring works. But if they are adding up the votes for scoring then that military concert episode really messed things up because the 400 soldiers made that one episode equal nearly 4 regular episodes. Meaning that one episode will nearly equal the other 4 scored episodes for this round all by itself. And since Bohyung was 50 points behind Uji and 70 points behind Sojung just for that performance, that alone would make it nearly impossible for her to catch up since their scores haven't differed by more that a few points in regular episodes.  

 

But to be honest, I think the PD is making up the points, or at least adjusting them with the second round scores. It is nearly impossible for there to be 3 ties in Team B's 4 performances, but it's happened. I think he's trying to find a way to get Bohyung, Uji, and Sojung in the finals, so he's making these ties so it seems plausible that there's a tie for the finals.

 

If they are running the points straight up and Bohyung is 1st for the next episode, she probably still won't make it to the finals. And that would be very hard to explain to the casual viewing audience considering how high she's placed every episode. But like I said, that military episode really messed things up.

I am kinda shocked that it's so short, but as far as the music shows, I don't mind. I remember being kinda sick of YDLM by the fourth week and the music shows had made them cut about a minute off their performance by then anyway. What I am shocked about is that they hadn't really done much besides the music shows. Usually Arirang radio has them on a couple of shows and they weren't on really any notable shows at all. I was hoping for Weekly Idol since they weren't on for YDLM.

So I caught the tail end of Girl Spirit today and saw the preview for next week. It seems like the top4 has now become the top5. I think it's safe to assume they are getting Bohyung, Uji, and Sojung into the finals. There was also a preview of Bohyung's performance and it looks epic. If you remember a few weeks ago she had an IG post with a vid of her with a orchestra with the hashtags #cn #beijing. Well that orchestra is for her performance in this episode.

 

But Bbo is so unpredictable, she actually put herself first in the line up (considered the worst position) and Uji last (considered one of the best positions especially for the 2nd round voting)

It's almost like Bbo is making a challenge purposefully for herself, it's both daunting and risky. But hey, if she really does get into the finals, I'm more than happy for her. 

 

After thinking about it, I think Bbo put herself first for the benefit of the orchestra musicians. That way they aren't waiting around the second half of the shooting day (since Team A performs first) for her performance. They just come do the rehearsal and then almost immediately after they perform

Anyone else catch the preview for next week's GS and the end of the episode today? I think that was Bbo dancing like Michael Jackson and then rapping! Although the MJ thing might not be her but a different performance. But the rapping sounds like her voice, and it goes with her first song "Caution".

Just finished watching the ep and I'm sure my heart stopped for a solid 5 seconds when Bohyung appeared on the screen omg. I mean, I figured they'd unclude her as the wild card 'cause of the military ep screwing up the scores but omg I'm so glad to see justice was served :') *tears of joy*

 

 

 

Since they cut the military episode's points in half, it didn't do as much damage as it could have. But along those same lines it messed up Sojung's chances of being in the top 2.

 

The show did so many things right but the point system was messed up because it was so inconsistent. Every episode should have had the same number of voters. And since the military episode was so random (as far as the voters themselves not being the music students) they should have added another performance for each team and then dropped one of their lowest scores.

 

 

Guys i just want you to know Bohyung sing OST for Yoonas new drama K2 , its awesome.

 

 I didn't even think she had time to do one with the comeback and Girl Spirit on her plate already. It does sound great.

I want to buy Secret Time but I didn't find any album. Is it only Digital single ?

 

 

There's a physical, I bought mine through the Mwave store, as I think most people did since they had the meet and greet this past Monday with additional prizes for those randomly selected. I know there were a couple other sites selling it but I don't have the links offhand (hopefully someone else knows them).

Jiwon looks smokin hot in that black outfit! I guess the orange color really did make a big difference in Sihyun's hair because it doesn't look nearly as awful (although I still don't like the cut) as it did during the comeback. And I wish they'd stop messing with Bbo's hair. All her hair styles on Girl Spirit look way better than what they've done to it during Secret Time promotions.
