This 17-year-old boy from Bashkortostan, Russia had a broken leg and had to stay at home to recuperate. To kill time, he decided to play DoTA (Defense of the Ancients).

His only break was to either take a nap, or grab a snack. For 22 days, this was his daily routine. The boy obviously had limited adult supervision, as the parents were not aware of their son’s addiction.

17-year-old Rustam dies from thrombosis after playing DoTA for 22 straight days

“While his parents were away, he incessantly played online computer games, wrenching himself away from the screen only to sleep,†Svetlana Abramova, a senior aide at the regional Investigative Committee said.

Rustam’s parents were used to hearing the clicking sound of their son’s keyboard, but it suddenly fell silent one night. His mother found him unconscious when she decided to check on him. He was then rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

He only took breaks for short naps and taking light snacks

Doctors reportedly suspect deep vein thrombosis.  That’s when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually in a leg. This can happen if you don’t move for a long time, which the teen hadn’t done. The blood clot can break loose and cause death.

To all the parents out there: pay attention to your children. Not because they are home, means it’s safe.

oh my......many teenagers in the Philippines love DOTA and basically all computer games. Hope they don't have computers in their home and if they do, I wish they don't have internet connection.  :omgwtf:  :omgwtf:  :omgwtf:

Rest in peace.

I've personally also spent lots of time playing games and watching shows for weeks, but because I've actually seen patients who get DVT's for the same reasons, I try to keep active in anyway I can. DVT's are scary shit and they can happen anywhere and it's often symptomless. I honestly don't want to have heparin injected in me to thin my blood because my lazy ass was too damn addicted to some game... the shit just ain't worth it.

But yeah those of you that work in offices, sit a lot, or fly a lot, just get some Compression stockings to help prevent your blood from pooling and clotting
