[YG Life] Only ‘YG’ Songs Would Be Left on Charts If ‘Infinite Challenge’ Songs Taken Out

The songs from MBC’s Infinite Challenge are gaining great popularity. This popularity would not be beaten by even Jo Yong-pil, Korea’s legendary singer. So we made an interesting assumption. What would be left when you remove Infinite Challenge songs from the charts?

If you get rid of the Infinite Challenge songs taking the top rankings from the charts, you will see only songs by YG artists. This is why YG singers are the biggest victims of the Infinite Challenge songs’ music chart ‘raiding’, and at the same time, are the biggest beneficiaries in that the YG artists proved their big names being the only survivors on the music charts.

We removed six Infinite Challenge songs from the Melon real-time chart as of 4 pm of the 27th. Then, the top place became “GUP†(Fear) sung by SONG MIN HO and featured by TAEYANG. The second place went to “Show Me the Money 4†team YG’s “OPPACHAâ€. The fourth was “THE TURTLE SHIP†which SONG MIN HO participated in singing at “Show Me the Money 4â€.

BIGBANG’s “LET’S NOT FALL IN LOVE†comes at the fifth place, “Wi Ing Wi Ing†by Hyukoh, who belongs to HIGHGRND, a YG label, at the seventh, and “ZUTTER†by G-DRAGON and TOP at the ninth. As many as six out of the top 10 ranking are sung or featured by YG artists. So, we have called YG singers the biggest victims of the Infinite Challenge songs’ music chart raid.

 

However, this phenomenon can be seen in a different way; only YG artists proved their popularity even facing the selling power of the Infinite Challenge songs. The songs are in fact more of a one-time event. To some extent, they are high on music charts backed by the popularity of Infinite Challenge, a very popular Korean TV show. That’s why Korean music producers, who knew the songs’ great selling power, were so keenly watching the release date of the Infinite Challenge songs.

But, YG songs survived. They showed once again their power in topping music charts with trendy music that young people love. So YG artists are not just victims.

One music producer said, “It’s likely that the Infinite Challenge songs will be high on charts at least for two weeks. But, BIGBANG’s new songs released in August have remained in the top rankings for about a month already. That’s a strong selling power.†And the producer added, “in addition to that, YG artists appeared in the most popular TV shows, “Infinite Challenge†and “Show Me the Money 4â€. That is, BIGBANG did “Infinite Challenge†even though they were extremely busy with MADE series and their world tour. YG Entertainment captured the good chance. I think YG made a smart and strategic decision.â€
