Tips for university students

- don't skip classes just because you can (especially in order to work for another class :imstupid: )

- work regularly!!!!! super important!!! even if you're lucky and cramming works for your exams or whatever try not to pick up the habit

- try to get as much sleep as your body needs ( @ me tbh)

- this is a bit more of a personal opinion, but if you're a science student: a good way to get a hands on experience is to ask your profs for internships/lab visits if you ever have the occasion (anywhere from a few days to a few weeks), you might not get paid (depends on a certain number of factors) but it's a nice way of being introduced to the current research problematics, plus you get to talk to grad students which is good if you're confused when it comes to your orientation, and you can put it on your resume + i think you can also try contacting industries to at least ask questions to the people working there etc

  • stay up on your studies like i can NOT stress this enough. It goes fast and before you know it your exams come by.

  • take a LOT of notes

read every single day either out of your textbook, or notes or slides. Just try to familiarize and understand the concepts

take snacks to class and munch on them during the day. If you don't have time to grab lunch this will save you from hunger and help you stay focused

STAY HYDRATED!

don't skip classes unless it's for an emergency. There could be something important done that day and it would be smart to be there and listen on in the lecture

here is my favorite tumblr college tips list. i use it all the time for new tips on studying, note-taking, etc [ http://stormbear.com/post/100241476022/masterpost-college-a-survival-guide-thanks-for ]

approach people in your classes about forming a study group around test times. It's always good to work with peers and compare notes in case you missed something or have trouble understanding something. And it's easier to stay focused if you're in a group of other people who are focused.

go to your professor's office hours if there is something you aren't understanding in class.

go to as many school sanctioned social events as possible because yo won't have to worry about things like drugs and alcohol and you can easily make friends because chances are other people who are there came specifically to make new friends too.

avoid buying new books if you can. Ratemyprofessor is a good site on checking your professor and learning a little bit of the classes you will take. Use office hours if you don't understand the topics in class. Work with people in the class. I'd find it easier on the classes I take when I work with a few people in the class. Dont be afraid  or embarrass to ask questions duing class if you don't understand it. Chances are if you have a questions then other people in the class will too.

Don't buy textbooks unless absolutely necessary and do not buy them before school starts. Ever. Try to find a pdf file online, go to your campuses used bookstore, buy cheaper from an older student (they usually sell on your uni's facebook page), pay to photocopy someone else's book for a cheaper price. Only buy them if none of these options work for you. Also check online at ratemyprofessors to see if the professor even uses the textbooks or not.

be a courteous roommate e.g. don't leave your dishes in the sink for days on end and never clean your side of the room, go to classes and take good notes, avoid the bookstore and buy all your textbooks from amazon, ebay, etc., try out clubs for a week and see if they interest you (mine had a Kpop club)

Don't freak out. It's normal to want to, mainly in the first year, but when you go through it you understand things aren't that scary or impossible.

Don't delay your homework. If it gets accumulated you'll probably won't be able to finish it all on time. And it's good to have it done before so if you have some doubts you, consequently, will have more time to ask to teachers, friends, etc.

If your classes don't have much homework or class exercises, suspect. Go find some exercises on internet or books and try to solve it. If you can't solve it go to your teacher and ask him. Always mark where you're having doubts so you won't forget when you go to ask someone.

Don't ever think "I won't note it because I will remember it later". Seriously, just keep noting as much as you can. Keep your notes organized so you won't get lost when you check them later but don't try to note it in a very "beautiful" way or else you won't have time to note everything you need.

Try to don't miss the key classes.

If you're not understanding the subject go talk to the teachers. And if after that you're still having difficulties don't get stuck on it, go to other teacher that understand of the subject and ask, even if he's not lecturing your classes. Repeat the cycle until you find someone that can explain it to you in a way you understand it, it will be really helpful. Don't give up on a subject just because you're having difficulties. Be insistent.

When doing group works be careful in what person you'll add to your group or in what group you'll get in. Some people can be really hard to work with.

- Based on my experience, try to befriend as much people as possible but only keep few close to you.

- Try to be independent, don't depend too much on your friend for everything and spend some time alone too. So that if anything happens, you'll be able to move on your own footsteps.
