  1. 1. Do you think it's rude to ask someone how much something was?

Yesterday I went to work wearing some new shoes.

Anyways this lady in the breakroom sees they're Prada (the flats there say "prada" in super tiny letters) and straight up asks how much they were. I was kind of taken back and lied and said they were a gift since I always found it a little bit rude to say how much something is, especially if it's in the more pricey range (especially since the lady is big on scolding people for how they choose to spend their own money anyways). Then on my second break ANOTHER person asks, "Oh how much were your shoes?"

Is this a normal question or is it as rude of a question as I think it is? I kinda always thought asking someone how much they spent on something was rude.  I'm now so confused since multiple people found it not to be a faux pas to ask.

i don't do it often... but i don't really mind if i get asked because i like to show it off.  (im vain as hell tbh)

i only ask if i know that person well and if i'm actually interested in the product.  i wouldn't ask someone with the purpose of finding out their spending habits and judging, if that makes sense at all

To me I guess it depends on how close you are, like if it's a family member or a friend then I don't think it's rude.

I wouldn't say I find rude when a stranger asks me, just a bit taken aback at the question, so I'd reply with a vague anwser like my mom got it, or I bought it a long time ago and can't remember

i don't find it rude but i also get hella bargains on all my designer stuff bc i'm a badass af shopper, so i answer if asked. it's my (or ur) money so how you choose to spend it is your business. plus if you're gonna wear designer stuff, half of the reason people buy it is because it is expensive and thus a status symbol.
