Watch: The Final Girls' Trailer Takes Taissa Farmiga and Nina Dobrev to Camp Bloodbath!

Taissa Farmiga, Malin Akerman and Nina Dobrev star in post-modern horror/comedy romp “The Final Girls,†the trailer for which has just debuted online.

 

Adam DeVine, Thomas Middleditch, Alia Shawkat and Alexander Ludwig also star in the pic, which sends up the tropes of 1980s slasher movies by transporting a crew of modern teenagers into the world of “Camp Bloodbath,†an homage to the genre’s most beloved films. Farmiga stars as Max, daughter of a horror film actress (Akerman) who stars in the film-within-the-film.

 

The clip is replete with in-jokes about the campiness of the genre and the devotion of its fans, from Middleditch’s character commenting on the corn-syrup-for-blood phenomenon to DeVine’s character making a mockery of the traditionally lame dialogue (“Nice legs. What time do they open?â€). While most of the trailer’s digs take aim at ’80s horror culture, 2015 teens are mocked as well, with Middleditch’s character pausing the action to take a selfie with the murder.

 

The Stage 6/Vertical Entertainment release drew some critical praise after its SXSW debut; the Variety review calls it “an amusingly meta horror-thriller†full of “good fun that should delight genre fans.â€
