nadiaj0y 261
I'm starting to notice that majority of Koreans tend to act like Busan City is its own country. For example, in Strong Heart, Yonghwa said that he met a girl in who actually dislike Busan guys but in the end that girl left him because she found out that he was from Busan. Like..I mean..they both are still Koreans anyways. Not only that, I can see that some Busan idols are treated like they are special or something. edit: Busan people may be charming to Koreans but people from other areas in SK can be charming as well..But why do they act like Busan is its own country? dead. 2,080
You can also ask "why do koreans act like seoul is its own country?" Busan is an important city just like seoul, it's not that deep.
night vale. 8,071
Doesn't this happen with most major cities in the world? Some New Yorkers act like they're completely separate from the rest of the U.S. Same with L.A.

Shinki 5,610
This doesn't make sense since you're comparing large countries to a small country. Korea has a special geography, too. That would make sense. They're an "old country" with an old civilization... Idk how to explain it at all in english, but their differences can be accentuated by their geography and other facts. lepidoptery 2,917
You mean "why do ppl in seoul act like busan is its own city". Because it is. Since you're from the USA... well, where are you? Do you think it's totally incomprehensible that, say, some ppl from Texas and ppl from Massachusetts might have some biases against each other? They're all Americans, right. night vale. 8,071
This doesn't make sense since you're comparing large countries to a small country. Still, it's going to be like that for any city. If you want a smaller example, people from Paris are considered to be a certain way while other cities have their own distinct style/mannerisms. A small country such as Korea still isn't going to be all one way. It's a homogenous society but that doesn't mean they don't develop distinct lifestyles from one city to the next. Haus of Tzu:Lai 5,450
People from Seoul tend to look down on other areas as they perceive themselves as 'big city' people and hence feel they are more cultured/trendy/superior etc. They perceive those from Busan to be more crass and backward, but to be honest, I find Busan natives to be more down-to-earth and real. You think SK is very homogeneous and yet they have multiple mutually unintelligible dialects. Regional accents in the US can be strong but (AAVs aside) generally there isn't much difference in vocabulary and grammar at all. I think you're underestimating SK just because of it's physical size and population size.
