the (US) American college culture is so absurd

well no wonder, with the money they have to pay to their college they better be at least proud of it

This basically. Plus it's a sense of unity. You bond with people over where you go to school. Plus it's just fun to cheer and support your school/team during sporting events and such.

Its not just about pride but its about making bonds that last you well past marriages and businesses (a lot of classmates later work together or choose their classmates to do business with so the benefit is two fold). Its about meeting ppl from all over the world that you connect with, learn about their cultures. Yes its expensive but its worth it. I attend St. Johns University in New York and it costs upward 50K a year but all the benefits are worth it. Overseas class trips, friends from across the globe, the alumni that you have connection with. It all ties in.

You damn right I am going to be proud. People are on average $20K in debt so at least give them something.

It is about building connections and networking. If I said I go to ----- College/University and someone is like I went there too, I would build a connection to build upon. Like my school has the Google program in the summer for engineers, so when they graduate they have a job lined up for them at Google. Wells Fargo Bank has accounting internships. My best friend got offered a job for Apple.

And you get to study abroad cheap. My school is affiliated with Oxford University and Korea University. As long as the you have the gpa, you have a spot.

50k a year... damn that's ridiculous, I could've never afforded that. I'm so glad I live in a country where university is free tbh... and you get the same perks as if you were in a ivy-insanely-expensive-league one so.. :derp:

lmao i paid so much for college but i drag it on a semi-daily basis. my ex and i actually got together after dragging the university president bc he's overpaid and useless af. BUT, i also get really defensive if someone else drags it bc they didn't pay $200k to go there  :donthinkso: i didn't either thanks to scholarships and such but u get the idea
