Why dogs smell each others' butts

Ever wondered why dogs smell each others' butts ? In my country this is the story how it all began. Sit down children it's story time, i am about to enlighten you.

Okay so one day there was a party set up specially for dogs In heaven. All dogs on Earth could go to heaven for a day to party. So all dogs lined up and went in one by one through the gates but they had to leave their butts hanging on a "tail rack" outside, butts weren't allowed in. So all the dogs hung up their butts and walked into the party. Suddenly in the party a fight broke out out of nowhere and everybody started scramming and running away. Because it was so chaotic and messy the dogs just grabbed the first butt they just saw and took off. So now on Earth when a dog sees another dog he smells his  butt to check if it's the butt that he lost in heaven...
