A SECOND fire and explosion happens at same Tianjin site.

After the devastation of the huge Tianjin explosions, a second fire and explosion occurred again, at the same site. People are being evacuated now from within a 3 km radius from the site. The current officially reported death toll of this entire situation is now over 100 dead, including 21 firefighters, and over 700 hospitalized with injuries.

(Keep in mind there are lots of rumours going about with estimations of a death toll much, much higher.)

This is just so awful..

Edit: If anyone would like to stay tuned in to Tianjin news (and can't read the Chinese news sites), Reddit has some really informative threads with translated information, as well as local inside information being leaked out.

wait do people know why these explosions are happening???

First explosions: gas station fire that spread, igniting chemical storage, and exploding.

Chemical experts found that there were huge quantities of sodium cyanide at the site. Firefighters originally made the unfortunate mistake of fighting the first fire with water, which when in contact with sodium cyanide, is highly explosive. (To be fair, they didn't know there was sodium cyanide nearby)

New explosions: some of the damaged cars (shown in the photo) exploded, causing new fires

I think they're reporting a death toll at over 100 now, but still with a lot of missing people.

105 according to state media, according to CNN.

Thank you! I will update. The most recent unofficial report is estimating at least 1400.

Yesterday even a restaurant fire where no one died had people spreading they saw dying people with burned bodies. People shouldn't just spread any rumors and unofficial death toll like this on the internet. It causes panic, as if their families aren't worried enough.

Not even a moment of respite from this tragedy.

The news about dangerous chemicals seeping into the soil and groundwater will likely cause a huge negative environmental impact that might last for years or even decades....

seems there is a lot of theories about the government trying to hide the death counts, which ... China, wouldn't be surprised, but it is better to wait for official information at the very least

lots of tweets, etc. being deleted after reporting differently from what the media has been selectively told

now they are seriously evacuating people, unbelievable that it could be in residential water lines - talk about potentially illegal activities in regards to handling hazardous materials

^ Very good point.

I see many ignorant people harshly judging China's way of handling this situation. But those people should really take the time to think about how many people China has, and the consequences of losing control if chaos ensues. It's a country that can't be governed the exact same way that the US or Canada is.

Lots of individuals on the Internet think just because a country doesn't run its people like the way theirs does, then that country has an inferior/less morally righteous government.
