What laptop should I get for school?

I need a laptop that can last me throughout my university years.

Don't require a fancy laptop, just a laptop that can allow me to do my school stuffs, and for leisure (watching movies/videos/etc). I don't(or won't) play games on my laptop though.

Price is definitely a factor to consider as well.

I've tried asking around and some are telling me asus is good, one say lenovo, one say samsung and some say acer.

*I know this has been posted a few times already but as people's reviews always changes with time, so....i think i should try asking again~

EDIT:

OH YEA, i'm looking for:

large memory space

fast performance/download speed

long battery life

lightweight

and good resolution if possible

(it doesn't sound like a fancy laptop right?)

MacBook Air.  But wait until fall cuz they are coming out with a new OS ver.

if you want windows pc I would get a Dell.

as for "Don't require a fancy laptop, just a laptop that can allow me to do my.... etc."  Well... I used to say that myself.  But you'd be surprised when you start doing more stuff on it and the computer either slows down or you wish you had more space.  It's better to have it and not need it then other way around.  But.. with computers... you always tend to "need it" lol.  If money is an issue they have financing plans where you can pay per month with no interest fees if paid off in a few years.  So.. it's pretty do-able.

Macbook.. don’t try to look at it as fancy or anything..

but it’s definitely good to us and last through out your university years. it’s easy and good too!

The Air is nice for students. Definitely not for power users but for doing school work and browsing the web, watching movies, etc, it is good. Not a bad price. Mac OS is nice as well if security is a concern. It's not invulnerable to malware or adware, but is more secure than windows and targeted less often (I have never encountered a virus on a Mac - ever. And adware is simple to remove.) And Apple has some of the best support in the industry according to consumer reports. If you are near any apple stores, this is especially nice for the Genius Bar support.

I also think Lenovos are quite nice!

I do not recommend HP.

oprahsingsforipad.gif

coz I need something to replace my current laptop so nope, not looking for a tablet ><

I'm using an acer laptop now! I think it's not bad, just that my mishandling caused the problem that I'm facing currently)

Samsung is good too?

DELL!

Depends where you live though! Dell servicing is hella good!

I'm in SG! Which dell laptops are good?

What is your budget? I can try and find something :D

Below $2000 SGD if possible xD (i'm not rich TT)

Depends on your budget. If you have the money then Dell xps otherwise get a zenbook.

dell xps? what does it do? zenbook is asus's right?

Macbook.. don’t try to look at it as fancy or anything..

but it’s definitely good to us and last through out your university years. it’s easy and good too!

But isit difficult to get used to macbook's functions?

Don't buy Asus

why?

Acer/Asus/Lenovo are all decent. Get a small-ish laptop (14~ inches at the most).

Do you want a CD/DVD player? Without one you cut the weight significantly, and you can always get a portable dvd player to connect to the laptop if needed.

What courses are you taking? Unless you're doing graphical design/movie making or other courses that require powerful/demanding programs (ie computer simulations) then you should be fine with an Intel i3 processor (or maybe an i5 if you want a bit better performance but an i3 will certainly do).

You might also want to consider storage I guess but it's usually not that important if you'll store files on the cloud.

Macbooks are really expensive, there are much better options imo.

Check this out.

Don't be afraid with the small disk drive memory as it is in SSD. SSD loads tonnes faster than HDD.

It is within your budget. Also check the warranty and stuffs in your country. In my country, they provide accidental warranty so if anything happens to my laptop, they come to my home and fix everything. I have been use Dell laptops for past 6 years and it has been the best for me at least.

Well.. I have a Dell and a macbook but for Dell laptops I don't know any off-hand.  you'd probably just have to research.  As long as you get one that is a fast processor like quad core then you should be good. that's pretty much what separates computers. Is the speed and HD space.

This will be pretty difficult...

Usually good performance, lightweight and good resolution/big screen means shorter battery life. The really small laptops tend to have less memory too.

You most likely won't need all that fast performance on a student laptop... and even the cheapest intel processors have good performance these days. Getting the top-class processors will be a waste of money most likely. You don't even need them to run heavy games...

You can already dismiss download speed as it depends mostly on your internet, btw.

No, Lenova. Was debating about surface but only 1 USB slot would be annoying I thought and I already have paper for note taking lol

lenovo-laptop-convertible-yoga-3-14-silv

It's good, but storage is kinda low, thank god I don't put any movies or anything on it or I would run out veery fast lol

OMG that's dope as fuck I like that. Yeah I was gonna get the surface to because it was on sale but yeah :/  i don't have time for one damn usb slot lol and I don't download movies much anyways tbh ... i just watch them online.... but omg i like that i might get that as a backup
